A prepared community is a safer community, and we can confidently say that our community is more prepared after the Gulf Coast Press the Chest Community CPR Event.❀️

Nearly 200 people of all ages participated in the event Sunday at the Pensacola Bay Center, learning hands-only CPR and choking relief methods for adults and children, in addition to how to use automated external defibrillators, or AEDs. Several cardiac arrest survivors were also recognized during the event, along with the first responders and bystanders who all played a role in saving their lives.

Bystander CPR is an incredibly important link in the chain of survival, since immediate CPR can double or even triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. Survival rates without CPR decrease by 10% as each minute passes.

Thank you to all of the first responders, medical professionals, elected officials including District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger, District 3 Commissioner Lumon May, and District 4 Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger, Mayor D.C. Reeves, and every member of the community who participated in this incredibly important event! Thanks to you, our community is empowered with critical skills that could be the difference between life and death in an emergency.

πŸ’™πŸ©ΊWe are excited to celebrate National EMS Week 2026 this week, recognizing and honoring the dedication, hard work and compassionate care demonstrated by our Escambia County Emergency Medical Services team every day while serving the community.

Observed May 17-23, this year's National EMS Week theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together." The theme recognizes the impact every EMS clinician has on the lives of their patients, by providing quality medical care that makes a measurable difference well before the patient reaches the hospital.

The dedicated EMTs, Paramedics, and every member of Escambia County EMS work hard every day to rise to the many challenges faced in this profession, even if it means spending countless hours away from our families and friends.

Thank you to our EMS team for your unwavering commitment to serving our community!❀️
