A prepared community is a safer community, and we can confidently say that our community is more prepared after the Gulf Coast Press the Chest Community CPR Event.β€οΈ
Nearly 200 people of all ages participated in the event Sunday at the Pensacola Bay Center, learning hands-only CPR and choking relief methods for adults and children, in addition to how to use automated external defibrillators, or AEDs. Several cardiac arrest survivors were also recognized during the event, along with the first responders and bystanders who all played a role in saving their lives.
Bystander CPR is an incredibly important link in the chain of survival, since immediate CPR can double or even triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. Survival rates without CPR decrease by 10% as each minute passes.
Thank you to all of the first responders, medical professionals, elected officials including District 1 Commissioner Steve Stroberger, District 3 Commissioner Lumon May, and District 4 Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger, Mayor D.C. Reeves, and every member of the community who participated in this incredibly important event! Thanks to you, our community is empowered with critical skills that could be the difference between life and death in an emergency.
