The WPVFD is an all-volunteer, nonprofit emergency services organization, founded in 1947, providing fire protection and all-hazard emergency response to West Pawlet, VT and surrounding communities. Fire Department responds 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to fires and other emergencies in West Pawlet. We also assist the fire departments of other surrounding communities through a system of mutual a

id, enhancing preparedness throughout the area. Our department is one of nine fire departments in Vermont dispatched by the Washington County Department of Public Safety. We are an all-volunteer outfit, comprised entirely of citizens who donate their time without compensation. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, financed in part by taxes allocated by the town, in part by fundraising events, and in part by the generous donations of individuals and businesses in our area.

The WPVFD is saddened to learn of the passing of Dorthy “Dot” Brace.
Dot was a Charter Member of the WPVFD Ladies Auxiliary and spent many years active in the organization.
Dot was also the wife of the Late Walter “Sam” Brace who was a longtime member of WPVFD as well as a Past Chief. Our thoughts are with Dot’s family.

This afternoon at 16:21, WPVFD was dispatched on AMA with Rupert VT Volunteer Fire Department for trees and power lines down in the road on Rt. 153 in Rupert.
Engine- 582 responded with a crew and shut the road down to all traffic at the Rupert / West Pawlet town line.
WPVFD units were returned to service at 18:15. YTD= 47

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM EDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 98 expected.

* WHERE...In New York, Eastern Clinton and Eastern Essex Counties. In Vermont, Western Addison, Grand Isle, Western Chittenden, Western Franklin, and Western Rutland Counties.

* WHEN...From noon to 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This will be the third of a series of increasingly warm and humid days, resulting in accumulated heat stress. Impacts may be greater early in the season when we are less acclimated to the heat.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Another “Training Tuesday” for WPVFD. Tonight members trained on hose line advancement techniques and water supply operations utilizing portable pumps. Oh, and bridge washing as we did this while washing the deck on Betts Bridge for the Town of Pawlet. “Moving water, it’s what we do.”

Today members of WPVFD and Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department attended the Mettawee Community School end of year Fun day. Fire department personnel provided a "soaker hose" for the students as well as some fire education.
