The Children's Healing Institute

The Children's Healing Institute Founded in 1988, the mission of The Children’s Healing Institute is to prevent child abuse by strengthening families facing crisis, challenge, and change.

Producing confident and capable parents; Keeping kids safe & secure in their own homes; Helping families stay intact; Changing the course for kids & their future. CHI educates and empowers families with focus on reducing stress, promoting health, building parenting skills, increasing access to resources, and strengthening support systems. Programs include TEACUP Preemie (resources and support for

families with a premature infant in the NICU), Bridging Hope (bereavement support and education for grieving children), Parent Aide Mentoring (in-home family mentoring and parenting support), and Healthy Start (care coordination and education for at-risk pregnant and new mothers). Since 2004, our annual Turn on the Light Conference educated the community with focus on child abuse and neglect prevention, intervention and advocacy, and is attended by hundreds of professionals, parents and volunteers.

Two numbers.

$3,000 is what it costs the Children's Healing Institute to keep one child home with their family for a year through our Parent Aide Program — a trained aide in the home, working alongside a parent who wants to do right by their kid and needs someone in their corner.

$105,131 is Florida's average annual cost per child in out-of-home care.

To be clear: when a child isn't safe, removal is the right call, and nothing replaces that. But most of the families who come to us aren't dangerous. They're overwhelmed, isolated, and one bad month from crisis. For those families, staying together is better for the child — and it costs a fraction of the alternative.

That's the work your support pays for. 💚

A NICU is frightening in your first language. In your second, it can be impossible.

We support families in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole — because no parent should have to guess at what a doctor just said about their baby.

As Hispanic Heritage Month begins, that's worth saying plainly: every family in Palm Beach County deserves to understand what's happening to their child.

The NICU doesn't close for Labor Day.

Somewhere in Palm Beach County this morning, a nurse is starting a twelve-hour shift on a holiday. A parent is driving to the hospital instead of a barbecue. And plenty of the families we serve are working today — because the shift doesn't care what Monday it is.

What a wonderful visit! 💙 Last week we welcomed Juan Awad and the Florida Blue team to The Children's Healing Institute to meet the people behind our TEACUP® Preemie & NICU Support Program — a first-place recipient of the 2026 Florida Blue Foundation Sapphire Awards.

More than 1 in 10 babies in Florida are born preterm. For those families, TEACUP® provides free, bilingual emotional support, maternal mental health screenings, lactation education, and resource navigation — from the NICU all the way through the transition home.

Thank you, Florida Blue, for spending time with us and for partnering with organizations working to strengthen maternal and infant health right here in Palm Beach County. We're grateful for your support of the children and families we serve every day.
