Proud to celebrate a hard-fought not-guilty verdict led by our colleagues, lead counsel Jessica Grobman and second chair Maurissa Jones.

The case turned on a simple truth: our client made repeated, good-faith attempts to comply, but the registration office wasn’t open.

On Friday 11/7, he walked across town to the office and found it closed.

On Monday 11/10, he returned, only to learn the office had closed at noon for the day-before-federal-holiday schedule. There was a sign on Monday, but no notice or sign posted on Friday.

Tuesday 11/11 was Veterans Day.

He went back again on Wednesday 11/12 and successfully registered.

Through clear, compelling witness examinations and persuasive arguments, Jessica and Maurissa showed the jury exactly what happened leading to the acquittal at trial.

Congratulations, Maurissa and Jessica, on a just result and exceptional advocacy.

Introducing PD15’s 2026 summer class of law graduates, fresh after taking the July Florida Bar exam! These soon-to-be-lawyers are excited to get in the courtroom and showcase their talents. Some are joining us from across the country, while others are coming back to the city that raised them. Ten of them are CLI’s or practicing attorneys, and five are returning to us after previously participating in our intern program.

Thank you to our Youth Defenders Ingrid Abello and Perry Thurston and to Chief Maegan Young for volunteering their time with the H.O.P.E. Youth Camp put on by Love, Hope & Healing Inc.
