The South Florida Water Management District and Palm Beach County’s Engineering and Public Works Department recently teamed up for a crucial project in the Glades area. SFWMD identified key issues on the L-15 embankment, including voids and washouts. Working together, we developed a repair plan and successfully completed the project. SFWMD secured the necessary riprap material, while our team coordinated hauling, storage, and placement of materials on the embankment. These repairs were vital to prevent further roadway undermining and ensure the continuous flow of water through the canal system. While it may not be a flashy project, this behind-the-scenes work is essential to maintaining the integrity of our infrastructure and ensuring the safety and reliability of our roads and water management systems. We’re proud of the collaborative effort that made it happen!

Starting on Wednesday, June 10, a newly installed traffic signal at Northlake Boulevard and Seminole Pratt Whitney Road will become fully active. The signal has been in flash mode since June 3, and signage is in place advising drivers of this change.

For the past several months, an interim traffic pattern required drivers traveling northbound and southbound on Seminole Pratt Whitney Road to stop before proceeding into the intersection. Westbound Northlake Boulevard motorists did not have to stop before turning left or right onto southbound or northbound Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. Likewise, northbound Seminole Pratt Whitney Road drivers turning right onto eastbound Northlake Boulevard did not have to stop. When the new traffic signal is activated, drivers should proceed through the intersection on the green light only and stop on the red light.

The traffic shift and temporary intersection configuration were part of the ongoing widening project along Seminole Pratt Whitney Road and Northlake Boulevard.

EPW appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this temporary inconvenience. These efforts are aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the County’s infrastructure.

The George Bush Boulevard Bascule Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will be closed from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, to Monday, July 20, 2026, for essential bridge deck repairs. Since this work has been anticipated, temporary measures have been implemented to keep the bridge operating safely until the closure. During this closure, both vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be detoured via Federal Highway, Atlantic Avenue, and Ocean Boulevard. No closures for maritime traffic are expected.

Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works (EPW) staff investigated maintaining access across a portion of the bridge and/or during the overnight hours but found no ability to safely reopen the bridge to vehicular or pedestrian traffic at any time during the closure. EPW appreciates the community’s patience and understanding throughout this temporary inconvenience as we work to enhance the safety and efficiency of the County’s infrastructure.

Just a reminder to be cautious and stay safe if your travels take you along Okeechobee Boulevard near downtown West Palm Beach on Saturday night!

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) will perform an emergency grade crossing repair on S.R. 704/Okeechobee Boulevard just west of Parker Avenue/Tamarind Avenue, requiring the closure of westbound vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11 p.m. through Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 7 a.m.

Motorists heading west on Okeechobee Boulevard should follow posted detour signs directing traffic via Tamarind Avenue, Banyan Boulevard, and Australian Avenue. The roadway closure will allow SFRTA workers to safely perform the crossing repairs on the South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC).
