[3 PM Tuesday, 9/8] Dangerous heat and humidity return to the area on Wednesday, and a Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT. Make sure you know the difference between heat stroke and heat exhaustion and when to call 9-1-1 for help!

A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday for areas generally north of the Ohio River and across northern parts of southeast Missouri. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat between 2 and 10 PM CDT.

After what will be the most pleasant day in over a week today, hot and more humid conditions return Tuesday and Wednesday. Triple digit heat indices are expected throughout the area Wednesday. A cold front will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the Quad State Wednesday night into Thursday. Temperatures return to normal for next Friday with dry conditions expected.

Hot temperatures but low humidity can be expected for Labor Day. Well above normal temperatures return for Tuesday and especially Wednesday, when heat indices will be back in the 100 to around 105 degree range. A cold front will bring good chances of showers and some thunderstorms Wednesday night into Thursday, with lesser chances lingering into next weekend.

Temperatures will bottom out just above normal Monday, then climb upward through Wednesday when some locations may reach the century mark. Heat Risk returns to the Major level throughout the region Wednesday. A cold front Wednesday night or Thursday will bring cooler conditions and a decent chance of showers and storms.

A rogue, isolated thunderstorm is moving south into Carter county and may impact the Van Buren area in the next 30 minutes. The storm is weakening, but could still bring a few lightning strikes and a heavy downpour.
