If you see a helicopter flying relatively low with a large, hexagonal-shaped hoop hanging below, don’t be alarmed! It’s all part of a special survey being conducted by the USGS and EGLE to map the region’s aquifers and geology. The data will improve USGS bedrock maps and inform the County's groundwater management efforts.

Our Township’s natural areas are here for everyone to enjoy! Unfortunately, illegal dumping has increased recently—ranging from construction and demolition materials to tires, deer carcasses, and other waste.

The Township provides a designated cleanup day for residents to properly dispose of these materials. On June 20th at Black River Recycling, residents can bring unwanted items for disposal and recycling. Please refer to newsletter or township website for more comprehensive list of allowed and disallowed materials. https://www.portsheldontwp.org/annual-clean-up-day/

We ask that you please take advantage of this opportunity and help keep our community clean. Illegal dumping not only damages these natural spaces, but it also creates an ongoing cost to taxpayers for cleanup each year.
If this activity continues, the Township will be required to consider additional enforcement measures, including surveillance, increased fines, and potential restrictions on vehicle access in affected areas.

If you see illegal dumping, please contact the county sheriff, and township officials.
Let’s work together to preserve these beautiful spaces.
