Sometimes all you need is a dog to make life a little brighter. Students in our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) hear from a Blue Path representative and service dog Deliah about how much a dog can truly change lives. BluePath is a non-profit that provides autism service dogs to families with children, offering safety, companionship and opportunities for independence. BluePath service dogs are trained to keep children safe in public by preventing them from bolting into the street or crowded areas. They also provide children with companionship, which has been shown to increase their social acknowledgment from peers and confidence in themselves.

Learners in various programs heard stories of how BluePath has changed the lives of many children and their families. Once the vest came off, Deliah was out to play, saying hello to students and staff alike.

Students in our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center’s (CTEC) Welding classes learn about careers as commercial divers. Representatives from the Hudson Valley Commercial Diving Training Center visit our classes to educate students about the requirements to become a commercial diver.

Commercial diving involves diving to the jobsite, often seen when mending and building offshore oil platforms, pipelines and other aquatic structures like dams. Thank you to Hudson Valley Commercial Diving for educating our students and possible career paths after graduation!

Additionally, 25 P-TECH students were recognized for academic achievement by placement on the Principal’s Honor Roll.

NTHS student representatives lit the ceremonial candles, acknowledging the following seven membership attributes: skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership. Silver robes designate third and fourth-year recipients, purple robes represent second-year and white robes represent first-year recipients.

Our Rockland BOCES Lumina School at Viola celebrates 20 graduating eighth graders who are moving on to high school! Graduates received awards and celebrated this outstanding milestone with family, staff and peers.

Principal Stephanie Marzan reflected on the class of 2026. “You kept going, you persevered, and that's what makes this moment something special. Resilience is not about never falling down; it’s about getting back up every single time life knocks you down. It's about finding the courage to try again tomorrow, even when today was difficult. The class of 2026 is some of the most resilient individuals I have ever had the privilege to know and I am so proud of each and every one of you.”

Congratulations to the Lumina Class of 2026!

Our Rockland BOCES community offers opportunities for learners to apply what they’re learning in the classroom to real-life situations. Students in Mike Zacchio’s Economics class at Hudson Valley P-TECH had this chance when they spoke with Joe Adiri, co-owner of Break Point Bowl and Entertainment in West Haverstraw. Formerly known as Hi-Tor Lanes, Break Point went from a traditional bowling alley to a state-of-the-art family entertainment center under new ownership.

Joe Ardiri spoke with students about the economic and strategic reasons to rebrand, providing real figures and decisions the business had to make, including the cost of their electrical bill, summer layoffs and the expense to exchange old arcade games with new ones. He then answered high schoolers’ questions about brand awareness, ROI and the impact of new tariffs on their business. Afterwards, students received a tour of the facilities and had some fun in their arcade!

Rockland BOCES Hudson Valley Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) is a four to six-year program (grades 9-14) focused on engaging students in hands-on, project-based learning. Students who successfully complete the program earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree at no cost from Rockland Community College. Learn more about P-TECH at RocklandBOCES.org.

Families and friends celebrate eleven graduating seniors from our Rockland BOCES Mountainside High School with pride and admiration this evening. Graduates receive their Regents Diploma in front of a crowd of teachers, administrators and their biggest supporters.

Principal Dr. Matthew Darby reflected on the time students spent at the school, reminiscing on Vision Boards the graduates recently presented. “Those vision boards represent something more than just a board on a wall; they represent possibility for our students. The reality is that, for many of our students, arriving at Mountainside is not part of the plan. Many come to us after struggling in previous schools. Some wonder if school will ever feel like a place where they’ll belong, and they want to believe things will get better, but after difficult experiences in the past, that hope can be hard to find. It's why these vision boards matter. It shows students who have begun to see a future for themselves. They show confidence. They show ambition. They show hope. Because before you can achieve a goal, you have to believe it is possible.”

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We’re proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Students in our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center’s (CTEC) Early Childhood Education Classes are preparing to save lives! Learners practice resuscitation, using AEDs and other life-saving skills in a training that will leave them CPR Certified. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is the act of performing chest compressions and rescue breaths to keep oxygen flowing after someone’s heart has stopped or they have stopped breathing.

The Early Childhood Education program is designed to teach students the aspects of teaching and working with young children, from birth through elementary age. Students learn the basics and methodology of child development and early childhood education while gaining a solid foundation in classroom management, lesson planning and curriculum development for infants/toddlers/preschoolers and young children. Receiving their CPR certification will prepare them for an emergency in the classroom.

Students are reviewing the evidence and making room to provide reasonable doubt in our Rockland BOCES Career and Technical Education Center’s (CTEC) Criminal Justice classes! Learners hear from Rockland County Public Defenders Marisa Licata and Jeffrey Florestal about their career path, daily tasks and the ethics around their career.

Students were exposed to real-life case examples and evidence that helped prove, or disprove, a client’s innocence. This hands-on experience prepares students for the workforce. Learn more about our programs at RocklandBOCES.org.
