The West New York Police Department would like to thank everyone who joined us today at Donnelly Park for the annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony.

A special thank you to Mayor Albio Sires, the West New York Board of Commissioners, and Police Director Henry Codina, for taking part in today’s ceremony.

We also thank all of our residents, first responders, town personnel, and community members who attended and took the time to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor the victims, their families, and the first responders who answered the call that day.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🚨 PARADE & PARKING ADVISORY 🚨

The West New York Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that the El Salvador Parade will take place this Sunday, September 13th.

NO PARKING will be permitted on Bergenline Avenue from 49th Street through 67th Street between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: All vehicles must be removed from Bergenline Avenue BEFORE 8:00 AM. Any vehicles remaining after 8:00 AM should EXPECT TO BE TOWED.

Due to the parade, all streets leading onto Bergenline Avenue within the affected area will be closed. Heavy traffic and delays are expected, and drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The parade will also travel through neighboring municipalities. Please check with those municipalities for their respective parking restrictions, street closures, and traffic advisories.

We encourage everyone attending to come out, enjoy the El Salvador Parade, celebrate responsibly, and help us keep the event safe. There will be a significant police presence throughout the area to assist with traffic, maintain public safety, and ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities safely.

Please be respectful of one another, follow all directions from officers, and avoid any behavior that could disrupt the celebration.

🍦👮‍♂️ ICE CREAM WITH A COP — A SWEET SUCCESS

The West New York Police Department would like to thank everyone who came out and made our Ice Cream with a Cop event such a great success! We had an amazing turnout and were happy to see so many families, children, and community members stop by to enjoy some ice cream and spend time with our officers.

A very special thank you to Mayor Albio Sires, the West New York Board of Commissioners, and Police Director Henry Codina for their continued support of our department and community initiatives.

We would also like to give special recognition to PO Sotamba for coordinating the event, as well as our Community Outreach Unit for their hard work in assisting with the preparation, management, and overall success of the event. Thank you as well to PBA Local 361, PSA Local 361A, and all of the officers, volunteers, and personnel who dedicated their time and helped make the day possible.

Most importantly, thank you to our West New York community for coming out and supporting us!

DAY 7 OF THE POLICE LEADERSHIP CAMP! 🚔

Day 7 is officially in the books, and we’re now just ONE DAY away from graduation!

Our cadets have had a busy and exciting few days learning about the many different aspects of law enforcement and public safety. They had the opportunity to experience demonstrations from the Newark Police Mounted Unit, the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, and the Port Authority Police Department K-9 Unit.

Today, our cadets traveled to the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute, where they received a behind-the-scenes tour of the dispatch center, police academy, and fire training grounds.

The West New York Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our partnering agencies for taking the time to educate, inspire, and show our young cadets the many different roles that make up the world of public safety.

We’re proud of everything our cadets have accomplished so far and look forward to celebrating them on graduation day!

Today, August 10, the West New York Police Department has four officers assisting the Bayonne Police Department by providing coverage while members of their department attend funeral services for their fallen brother.

During times of loss, the law enforcement community stands together. We are honored to support our brothers and sisters of the Bayonne Police Department as they mourn the loss of one of their own.

The West New York Police Department extends our deepest condolences to Officer Giordano’s family, friends, fellow officers, and the entire Bayonne community.

WEST NEW YORK POLICE LEADERSHIP CAMP — WEEK ONE COMPLETE!

The West New York Police Department is proud to announce that our Police Leadership Camp has officially completed its first week! Our young participants are now halfway through the program and one step closer to Graduation Day.

This year is especially exciting as we welcome 78 West New York children our largest Police Leadership Camp class ever.

We’re proud of everything they have accomplished during their first week, and we look forward to an even better second half of the program.

One week down. One week to go.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for National Night Out at Miller Park!

The West New York Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mayor Albio Sires, the Board of Commissioners, Police Director Henry Codina, and special thank you to Captain M. Ramos for organizing the National Night Out.

We would also like to thank all of our dedicated police officers, volunteer officers, and every volunteer who donated their time and effort to help make this event possible. A special thank you goes to PBA Local 361 and PSA Local 361A for their continued support and assistance throughout the event.

National Night Out is about bringing our community together, strengthening the partnership between law enforcement and the residents.

It was wonderful to see so many families, residents, and children come out to enjoy the evening. We hope everyone who attended had a great time, enjoyed the activities, and created lasting memories.

WEST NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT

E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety Reminder

The West New York Police Department has heard the concerns of our residents regarding the unsafe operation of e-bikes, e-scooters, and other electric vehicles on our streets and sidewalks.

In response to these concerns, the Town of West New York has taken additional steps to improve safety throughout our community. Our local ordinances include requirements that are stricter than certain New Jersey requirements, including requiring all operators of covered e-vehicles to wear a helmet, regardless of speed, pursuant to Town Ordinances 130-10 and 130-12.

These measures are about safety, not punishment. Since these ordinances were implemented last year, we have seen a decrease in accidents involving these vehicles, and we want to continue that progress.

The Town has also created bike lanes throughout West New York to provide riders with safer areas to travel while helping protect pedestrians and motorists. We ask everyone operating an e-bike, e-scooter, moped, or other electric vehicle to use these areas when applicable, ride responsibly, obey traffic laws, and follow both New Jersey law and West New York ordinances.

Our goal is simple: safer streets for everyone.

Please review the attached flyer for information regarding vehicle classifications, speed limits, licensing, registration, insurance, age, and helmet requirements.

The West New York Police Department will continue educating the community and enforcing these laws. Failure to comply with applicable state laws or Town ordinances may result in a summons.

Thank you to our residents for continuing to share your concerns with us and for doing your part to keep West New York safe.
