⚽️ FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 – PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT ⚽️
As the FIFA World Cup approaches, the West New York Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly.
If your team wins, please do not block streets, intersections, or sidewalks. Pedestrians must be able to walk safely, and emergency vehicles and traffic must be able to move freely throughout town. We understand the excitement and pride that comes with supporting your country, but public safety remains our top priority. Please celebrate responsibly, do not antagonize rival teams, and remember that we will have an increased police presence at locations where large crowds have historically gathered. We are aware of which matches are likely to draw significant celebrations and will be monitoring those areas accordingly.
While we encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly, residents and visitors are reminded to comply with all New Jersey Title 39 Motor Vehicle regulations. Celebrations may include vehicle caravans, flag displays, and the use of vehicle horns; however, motorists must obey all traffic laws and avoid blocking roadways, intersections, crosswalks, or sidewalks to ensure public safety.
The FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 through July 19, 2026, with the Final being held at New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford. With eight matches scheduled at the venue, we anticipate increased tourism and traffic throughout our area, particularly along major roadways and commercial corridors, including Bergenline Avenue.
The West New York Police Department will be focused on maintaining traffic flow and public safety throughout the tournament. We ask everyone to treat visitors and fellow fans with respect, celebrate responsibly, and remember not to drink and drive. If you observe suspicious activity, please contact the police immediately. Businesses serving alcohol are reminded to comply with all ABC regulations, as compliance checks will be conducted throughout the event.
We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world and hope everyone enjoys a safe and memorable FIFA World Cup.
