STERLINGTON, La. (KNOE) - The Town of Sterlington and Keep Sterlington Beautiful announced it will soon install new surveillance cameras to target illegal dumping and littering after receiving a state grant.
The community secured $4,725 through the Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grant, a collaborative program funded by Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. Local officials will use the funds to purchase specialized surveillance cameras and equipment to monitor problem areas throughout the town.
Sterlington police officers and code enforcement personnel will regularly review the camera footage. Officials plan to investigate captured violations and issue citations to individuals caught littering or dumping waste illegally.
“This grant gives us another valuable tool to protect our community and hold those who choose to litter accountable,” Sterlington Mayor Matt Talbert said.
Councilwoman Erica Hughes, who also serves as the Board President for Keep Sterlington Beautiful, emphasized that the technology will improve overall quality of life for residents.
“The addition of surveillance cameras will strengthen our enforcement efforts, deter illegal dumping, and help us keep our roadsides, neighborhoods, and public spaces cleaner for everyone,” Hughes said.
Town leaders expressed their appreciation to Lieutenant Governor Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful for investing in local communities and supporting efforts to keep Sterlington clean.
