Grab your fishing gear and join us for National Go Fishing Day! 🐟🎣

As we celebrate Great Outdoors Month, there's no better way to enjoy the natural beauty of West Monroe than spending a morning on the Ouachita River. We hope you will join us on Thursday, June 18, from 8–10 AM at the Downtown Riverfront Fishing Pier (108 N. Riverfront Street, near the railroad tracks) for a fun and educational fishing experience.

We're excited to welcome John David Owen, owner of Honey Hole Tackle Shop, who will be sharing fishing tips, techniques, and demonstrations for all experience levels. This event is a great opportunity to get outside, connect with nature, and enjoy one of West Monroe's premier riverfront destinations.

A FREE Day of Play is happening Friday morning at The Rec at Seventh Square 🏀🏓

Looking for a fun way to keep the kids active this summer? Join The Rec at Seventh Square and the West Monroe Fire Department for a FREE Day of Play on Friday, June 12, from 10 AM–12 PM!🏀🚒

Children ages 5–14 can enjoy a morning filled with basketball, pickleball, ping pong, pool, and more. Plus, they'll have the chance to meet members of the City of West Monroe and shoot some hoops with our local firefighters!

Bring the kids, invite a friend, and come enjoy a morning of fun, games, and community connection. We hope to see you there!

🌳 Support Kiroli Park while enjoying a night of classic comedy!

The Carol Burnett Show Dinner Theater is coming to the West Monroe Convention Center on June 27. Proceeds from this special event will benefit the Kiroli Foundation and help support the future of Kiroli Park.

As temperatures rise and more families head outdoors, we want to remind everyone that swimming is not permitted in any bodies of water within City of West Monroe parks, including Highland, Restoration, Lazarre, and Kiroli Parks.

These waterways are not designated swimming areas and may contain hidden hazards, changing water conditions, wildlife, and other safety concerns. We encourage everyone to enjoy our beautiful parks while helping us keep them safe for all visitors. Thank you for your cooperation and for doing your part to protect yourself, your family, and others enjoying our parks this summer. ☀️💙

🚣‍♂️ The River Rat Paddle Challenge website is now live!

The 10th Annual River Rat Paddle Challenge is returning to the Ouachita River on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This annual paddle event brings together kayakers, canoeists, paddleboarders, and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region for a day of fun on the water while supporting two incredible local organizations: the Kiroli Foundation and ACE Academy (Academy of Collaborative Education). The event features a 7.7-mile paddle race with multiple divisions, along with the fun and community spirit that has made the River Rat Paddle Challenge a Northeast Louisiana tradition.

There’s no better time to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and explore all that West Monroe’s parks and outdoor spaces have to offer.

Whether you're taking a walk along the Highland Park Wetland Trails, exploring the natural beauty of Restoration Park, casting a line from the public fishing pier at Downtown Riverfront Park, launching a kayak from Campbell’s Landing, or enjoying a game of pickleball, tennis, or disc golf, there are countless ways to enjoy the outdoors right here in our community. Need a slower pace? Pack a picnic, visit the butterfly garden at Highland Park, or simply spend some time reconnecting with nature.

Throughout the month of June, we'll be sharing outdoor recreation ideas and highlighting some of the many ways you can get outside and make the most of Great Outdoors Month.
