The summer heat is here, and a few simple precautions can make all the difference. ☀️

The West Monroe Fire Department encourages everyone to stay alert as temperatures continue to rise. Whether you're spending time outdoors, working in the heat, or staying cool at home, taking a few extra steps can help prevent heat-related illnesses and reduce the risk of electrical fires.

Remember to:
• Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
• Keep cool by using air conditioning whenever possible.
• Avoid overloading electrical outlets and inspect extension cords for damage.
• Take breaks in the shade if you're working outside.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

It's also important to know the warning signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—if someone is showing symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Please take a moment to review these important summer safety tips and share them with family and friends. By staying informed and looking out for one another, we can all help keep West Monroe safe this summer. 🚒

🎆🇺🇸 Celebrate the 4th Safely, Ouachita Parish! 🇺🇸🎆

As you gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day, help us keep emergency lines open for those who truly need them.

🚨 Call 911 if:
✅ Someone is injured or experiencing a medical emergency
✅ A fire is out of control
✅ Fireworks cause a home, vehicle, or structure fire
✅ A life-threatening situation exists
✅ A crime is in progress

🚫 Please do NOT call 911 for:
❌ Loud fireworks in your neighborhood
❌ Legal fireworks being used responsibly
❌ General complaints about holiday celebrations
❌ Questions about fireworks laws
❌ Non-emergency noise complaints (unless another emergency is involved)

Every unnecessary 911 call ties up dispatchers who may be trying to help someone facing a true emergency.

🎇 Have fun. Be responsible. Watch your children closely, keep water nearby when using fireworks, and never mix fireworks with alcohol.
