Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day and remember those who gave everything for our freedom.

From all of us at the West Milwaukee Police Department, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy.

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day!

This week, we honor the men and women who put on the badge and serve their communities with courage, professionalism, and sacrifice every single day. During National Police Week, we remember the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and recognize those who continue to serve with dedication and integrity.

Thank you to all law enforcement officers, dispatchers, support staff, and families who stand behind the badge. Your commitment does not go unnoticed.

Stay safe, and never forgotten. 🇺🇸

The Village of West Milwaukee, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 from 9:00am - 1:00pm, at the West Milwaukee Police Department, 4755 W Beloit Road, West Milwaukee, WI 53214.

“Drug Take Back Day is about prevention,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Please help with the fight against addiction by disposing of your unused and unwanted medications at a Drug Take Back event this Saturday or at a permanent drug drop box.”

This effort will continue to bring focus to the issue of prescription medication abuse in Wisconsin. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these medications. Find your nearest drug disposal location: www.doseofrealitywi.gov

Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all pharmaceuticals and trace amounts are showing up in rivers and lakes.

GUIDELINES:

All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household – no businesses are allowed.

Bring:
Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, pet medications, v**e pens or other e-cigarette devices (batteries removed).

Do Not Bring:
Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.

Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages without the medications being removed are acceptable.

Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.

Illicit substances such as ma*****na or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.

Community members are also reminded that many drug disposal boxes are open year-round.

If you are unable to make this event, the West Milwaukee Police Department has a 24/7 prescription medication drop off box in the front lobby of the police department.

This program is completely anonymous and helps our environment, prevents accidental poisoning, prevents identify theft, and helps reduce substance abuse and drug addiction.

Wearing a seat belt is required by law in Wisconsin. It’s not just drivers who can get a ticket. A passenger can also be issued a citation for not wearing a seat belt. Buckle up. Every trip, every time.

Officers will be conducting seatbelt enforcement as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign. Buckling up takes seconds and can save your life.

Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained, day or night. Drive safe and stay compliant.
