The Mifflin Township Historical Society covers 14 communities which accounts for over 10% of all Allegheny County municipalities, over 40 square miles, has 80,000 residents. The present day communities of Baldwin (part), Clairton, Duquesne, Dravosburg, Hays, Homestead, Jefferson Hills, Lincoln Place, Munhall, Pleasant Hills, West Elizabeth, West Homestead, West Mifflin & Whitaker are in this are

a. Mission Statement
The goal of our Society will be to document, chronicle and preserve, whenever possible, the artifacts and sites of historical significance from the original Mifflin Township of 1788. We openly invite all members of the communities above and anyone else interested in the history of those communities to join the Society as active volunteers to accomplish this goal of preserving our heritage for future generations.

How many remember this fine eating establishment that did not last long? It was a hot dog - ice cream place. Located on Lebanon Church Road in the auxiliary parking lot between today's McDonalds and the recently demolisted AAA (which was originally Arthur Treacher's Fish 'n Chips).

WEST MIFFLIN POST OFFICE - original building was located on Greensprings Avenue near the fire hall. It was renamed West Mifflin Post Office (a branch of the Homestead Post Office) in the 1950s. Before this time it was called the Homeville Post Office and moved to this location. It had 2 carriers and an auxiliary route in the 1950s. The Homeville Post Office orginated when the Terrace Post Office was closed. This was located on Garfield Avenue and Center St (where the old Anne's (Podomik) Confectionary was located.

WILSON GULF STATION - was located on Lebanon Church Road and Camp Hollow Road across from the Allegheny County Airport. The station was moved in the 1960s to the opposite side of Camp Hollow Road (where the present day WM Borough Building is located). This was in preparation of moving the earth from behind it to the opposite side of the road where the present day Holiday Inn Express is located. This prepared the site for the Sears Roebuck store. This is the present day location of the Anthony Arms building. Date of the photo is May 6, 1952

Starlite Motel located on present day Route 51 in Jefferson Hills was built in the early 1950s. It was a one story structure with a second story added in the 1960s. The building has always been taken care of and maintained through the years. Today it is with the Econo Lodge family of motels.

BROWN'S and HIGH LEVEL BRIDGES. This photo circa 1937 shows the Homestead High-Level bridge under construction. Bridge opened in November 1937. Brown's Bridge is to the left. Notice the old roadway. The Jewish Home is next to the bridge where the Brown's Mansion was once located. This was the one they moved up the side of the hill. The old ward was a booming place then

The red brick Mifflin Township Elementary School was at the corner of E. Twelfth Ave. and Martha Street. Built about 1890 by the Mifflin Township school supervisors. The old Munhall High School is to the left. The Elementary School was taken by the Borough of Munhall when it was formed in 1901.
