Big opportunities are on the horizon for organizations working to make a difference in our community.

The Greater West Memphis Energy Affordability Fund is now open, bringing $1.25 million in competitive grant funding to support projects that improve energy affordability, expand efficiency, and strengthen workforce opportunities across our region.

Local nonprofit organizations can apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $200,000 to support initiatives such as:

• Energy efficiency and weatherization
• Home repairs that enable energy improvements
• Solar and solar-plus-storage projects
• Workforce training tied to energy work

In its first year, 80% of funding will support projects in West Memphis and Crittenden County, with the remaining 20% benefiting Memphis and Shelby County.

West Memphis Utilities General Manager Bob Atkins is proud to serve on the Community Energy Advisory Council, helping guide funding recommendations and ensure investments reflect the priorities and needs of the communities this initiative is designed to serve.

This fund represents another important step toward building a more affordable, resilient energy future for our residents.

Grant applications are open now through June 30. Award notifications are expected in August.

Investing in the future of West Memphis starts with investing in our students. 💙🎓

Earlier this week at the Academies of West Memphis awards ceremony, West Memphis Utilities proudly surprised outstanding students with $3,000 scholarships to support their educational journey.

Mayor Marco McClendon and West Memphis Utilities General Manager Bob Atkins presented the awards during Monday night’s ceremony, making the moment even more special for students and their families.

Even more exciting, the scholarships are renewable for students who maintain the required GPA, creating continued opportunities for success for up to 4 years total.

This is a major investment in some of the brightest and top-performing students in our community, and we are proud to support the next generation of leaders.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients! 🎉

Today, West Memphis Utilities was proud to take part in a major announcement at the Mayor Joyce Ferguson Civic Center as Google introduced the first recipients of the West Memphis Energy Impact Fund.

This $25 million investment is focused on improving energy affordability across West Memphis and Crittenden County; helping families lower their monthly utility bills through critical home repairs, weatherization, and upgraded HVAC systems.

Our General Manager, Bob Atkins, joined leaders on a panel during today’s event and will also serve on the newly formed Community Energy Advisory Council. This group of local leaders will help guide how $1.25 million in community grants will be distributed in 2026. This ensures decisions are made by those who know our community best.

We’re honored to collaborate with partners like Crowley’s Ridge Development Council, Groundswell and ICF to help deliver real impact.

This is what progress looks like: neighbors helping neighbors, and a community leading the way toward a more affordable, energy-efficient future. 💡

Look for updates on how you or someone you know could qualify for assistance in the near future. ✅
