25 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. It started out like a beautiful, sunny day. I was on my way to the office when I got a page. I was asked if I had a spare uniform with me. When I said yes, I was sent to the Ferry Docks in Atlantic Highlands. The ferries from NYC kept coming every 20 minutes with 600 passengers each time. The NJSP kept count of all the people we saw, very few with injuries, mostly evacuees. They just kept coming. I was told not to let anyone on the ferry back to NYC. Three priests requested to ride to be with the passengers on the ride to NJ. The NJSP okayed the ride. When it was dark and the ferries stopped, they just moved us to Liberty State Park and then to Chelsea Piers.
