It is with deep regret and sorrow the West Long Branch Fire Department announces the sudden passing of Firefighter Biagio “Billy” Guzzi.

Billy would be seen all over town on his bike with his son Biagio on the back. He was a friendly face with a great personality.

On behalf of the chief officers, company officers, and members of the West Long Branch Fire Department we wish your deepest sympathies to Billy’s family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the West Long Branch Fire Company #2 announces the passing of brother Firefighter David J. Phillips Jr.

Dave began his career of service back in 1968 with the Deal Fire Department and First Aid Squad, where he actively served for many years. In 1972, Dave joined the ranks of the Deal Police Department as a Police Officer, where he served for 30 years, before retiring in 2002.

After retiring, Dave joined the West Long Branch Fire Department, in the town where he raised his family. Dave was very involved in the Fire Department, serving as Company Captain from 2010-2011. Dave also served as Secretary of the Firemans Relief Association and Treasurer of the company for numerous years. Dave lived a life of service and could always be counted on for assisting with company drills, firehouse clean ups and events. Dave will be greatly missed by many.

Daves legacy of service is carried on by his two sons, Past Chief of Department and current Assistant Chief Timothy Phillips, and Firefighter David J. Phillips III. Both, David and Timothy, are also Career Firefighters for the City of Long Branch.

It is with a profound sadness that the West Long Branch Fire Department, Company No.2 announce the untimely passing of Firefighter Daniel Mellaci. Danny joined the fire department in 2009. In his tenure he was an active member of the department up until his illness took a more direct role.
In addition to giving of himself and his time for the residents of West Long Branch. He continued his service to the residents of Monmouth County as a 9-11 tele-communicator. He was a well-rounded member of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division. Since his heart was completely in the fire service, he was one of the best fire dispatchers. Whether a person calling for help or a calm assertive and professional voice on the other end of the radio. Danny far exceeded the expectations of that role.

Danny joined The Atlantic Engine & Truck Co. 2 of the Long Branch Fire Dept-2009, the Wayside Fire Co. in Tinton Falls in 2017 and became a New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician. As well as becoming a fire inspector for the Borough of Manasquan. If that wasn’t enough, he was a part time Uniform Firefighter for Squankum Fire Co. in Howell Twp.

Danny had a captivating way of making his presence known with a subtle smile. Not only in life was Danny thinking of service to others but in death as well. Danny chose at a young age to become an organ donor. So, we celebrate this brave young man who gave so much of himself to others.

The chiefs, officers, and members of the West Long Branch Fire Department wish to extend our deepest condolences to his loving wife and family. Danny was a husband son brother nephew uncle and ultimately an inspiration to us all.

It is with deep regret that the West Long Branch Fire Company No.2 announce the passing of brother firefighter and ex chief James C. Migliaccio. Ex Chief Migliaccio was a 65 year member serving as chief in 1970. Ex Chief Migliaccio also served as financial secretary as well as on many committees over his tenure. Ex-chief Migliaccio or more affectionately known as “Jimmy Blue” was a long standing pillar of this company. Jimmy was always involved in multiple projects, most of which were for the fire company. I’m sure most members will have a fond memory of Jimmy Blue, with a project or in the afternoon watching his television programs. His legacy will continue to be represented by his son ex Chief Fred Migliaccio and current Fire Marshall for the County of Monmouth, as well as his Grandson James F. Migliaccio company member and Uniformed Firefighter for the City of Long Branch.

On behalf of the officers and members of West Long Branch Fire Company No.2., we wish the Migliaccio family our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
