The 35th Combat Aviation Brigade Equal Opportunity Office would like to recognize our own Trailblazer for Black History Month: 2LT Kayla Freeman. She made history upon graduation from Tuskegee University by becoming the first African-American woman Aviator in the Alabama National Guard. 2LT Freeman also had the distinction of being mentored at Tuskegee by COL Christine Knighton, ret., who was the first woman in the U.S. Army to command a tactical combat arms battalion.
