Ashe County Public Library

Ashe County Public Library is part of the Appalachian Regional Library System.

The Ashe County Public Library was founded in 1932 by the Ashe County Women's Club and opened with 500 books in the collection. In 1962, the Ashe Library joined with the Wilkes and Watauga Libraries to form the Appalachian Regional Library. In 1977, the doors opened on the new, dedicated building where the library is still housed today, after two major expansions (the last completed in 2009) which more than tripled the original square footage.

Teens, join us on Tuesday, July 21, at 2 pm for a mosaic art workshop taught by local artist Erica Walker! The workshop is open to ages 12-17.

As part of his Summer Southern Pop Art Tour, pop artist Michael Albert is bringing his nationally known Cereal Box Collage Workshop to Ashe County Public Library next Friday, July 24, 10 am – 12 pm. Participants will have the chance to create their own masterpieces using Albert’s materials of choice — namely cereal boxes and other colorful cardboard packages. Everyone will receive a free signed poster of one of Albert’s creations as a special gift for joining him in this creative art-making session. (This program is for teens and adults.)

Teens and adults, please join us in the lovely Bowie-Segraves Park TODAY at 5 PM for an hour of silent reading among fellow booklovers. Bring your current read and a chair/blanket, and meet us outside! We will start by saying hello, then have silent-reading time, and end with conversation. 😊 (There will be snacks, too!)

Date & Time: This evening, Thursday, July 16, 5-6:30 PM

Location (See Photos): Bowie-Segraves Park. To find our spot, exit the library’s back door and turn right toward picnic table, or use the nearby parking lot.

You are cordially invited to our artist reception event tomorrow, July 10, at noon for JoAnn Pippin, whose national parks artwork is on display in the library's upstairs Ida C. Marsh Gallery for all of July. The reception will be casual and held in the Gallery, with JoAnn present to chat with folks. We'll have light refreshments, good conversation, and lovely artwork.
