🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Since 1950, Memorial Day has been intended to honor the many fallen, with peace and unity.

As we all enjoy being surrounded by family and friends today, let us not forget the soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen that have died while serving; allowing us to become, and continue being, the land of the free and home of the brave.

When the training, pays off for reality.

Recently we added several new part time FFs to our roster. Taking time to teach them the procedures, policies, and practices of JTFD. Learning to mesh with the existing crews and building trust, we’ve been busy putting in the hours, practicing how we play.

To list a few:
Hose movement
Search & rescue
Vehicle extrication
Drivers training
Inventory memorization

2U was able to put skills to work yesterday with a fully involved vehicle fire on I-70.

We will continue working hard to provide the community the best possible!

Earlier this month we were welcomed to West Jefferson Middle School, to the 8th Grade Health class. We taught hands on CPR and Stop the Bleed procedures, with providing brochures to reiterate the steps, and important relevant facts.

This class was taught with lecture, demonstration, and observation of all students present in the proper procedure.

With the students taking pre and post test questionnaire, we are able measure knowledge gained with the education.

Following completion of the class, the students had an increase of knowledge gained, in the following areas:

🦵💪30% of identifying body parts appropriate for tourniquet placement
⏱️ 53% of compression rates
🩸 36% of identifying life-threatening bleeding
👨‍💼👶 54% of correctly identifying differences of CPR between adults and babies
📈 94% in confidence of assisting persons in need of CPR

With warmer weather here, water fun is likely to increase. Please be mindful the dangers present. Protect yourself, your family, and your community members with arming yourself with knowledge.

World wide, drowning takes the lead of accidental deaths.

In Ohio, from 2019-2023, there were 124 reported drowning deaths of ages birth to 17years old.

93%, were preventable
52% were toddler aged children
Only 19% had protective barrier like preventions placed
Half of those barriers, were not intact

We extend our condolences to the family of Mike Baird. Mike was a West Jefferson High School Graduate and served as a firefighter for JTFD for many years.
