Today we performed funeral services for Mr. Paul Weir, former Chief and President of West Homestead VFD. Mr. Weir was a pillar of our community for many years.

At the age of seventeen, he volunteered as an Air Raid Warden, and at eighteen, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard an amphibious gunboat from the Philippines through the occupation of Japan, earning two Battle Stars for his service.

For 30 years, Mr. Weir managed his service station at the corner of 7th and 8th Avenue. He was instrumental in organizing the West Homestead Little League. In addition, he a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 4210 in West Mifflin. He was also a member of the Color Corps of the Stephen P. Barry Assembly, Fourth Degree. Paul graciously volunteered his time at the 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Therese Church and as a patient es**rt at Jefferson Hospital.

On September 13th 2025, Mr. Weir was blessed to celebrate his 100th birthday surrounded by family. He loved spending time with friends and family, as well as hunting, the outdoors, and all sports.

On behalf of the West Homestead Volunteer Fire Company, we extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Chief Paul Weir.

From his time serving in the Navy as an Air Raid Warden during WWII to his years as Chief and President of our very own VFC, Chief Weir’s life was dedicated to service and community.

You will be deeply missed, Chief. Thank you for your service.
