In the streets of Tehran in March 1979, while filming YEAR ZERO, we heard Iranian women marching for their freedom and chanting “AZADI”.
47 years later, Azadi seems so far away… but brave Iranian women are still fighting for their freedom. But not from bombs, dropped by 2 countries who do not care about them or the Iranian people.
We think of all of you, more than ever on March 8th!

TEHRAN, IRAN, MARCH 1979: Iranian women marched for their freedom, their rights and against the mandatory veil. Four French feminists filmed a documentary now known as 'YEAR ZERO', never distributed alas but found again on the Internet the year of the Green movement (it can be seen at www.YEARZERO1979.org). Kate Millett (below at a press conference in support of the women's march) wrote 'Going to Iran' and recorded the sounds of the protests. 46 years ago, today, the voices say the same:

TEHRAN 1979 SAVE THE PICTURES
In March 1979, Iranian women marched for their rights and against the mandatory veil. Four French feminists filmed and photographed these historical events, and produced a short documentary now known as YEAR ZERO. This film was never distributed but found a new life on the Internet, the year of the Green movement. These invaluable images, the 16mm footage, and the photographs must be saved and released. They belong to the history of the women’s movements and the collective memory of the Iranian people.

WE ARE HERE, WE ARE AWAKE - a photo exhibition and film program in Istanbul and Ankara, in May and June, with two screenings of Iranian Women's Liberation Movement, Year Zero (original version in Farsi and French with Turkish subtitles). Organized by Sinematek Istanbul and 26th Flying Broom IWFF.
