***Insurance Fraud arrest***

In December 2025, the West Haven Police Department responded to a parking lot on Elm Street for a reported armed robbery. According to the victim, she was robbed at gunpoint of all her jewelry.

Due to the nature of this incident, West Haven Police Detective Division was also dispatched and assumed the investigation.

Days later the victim gave detectives appraisals for the jewelry she claimed was stolen from her with a total cost of over $70,000.

Throughout this lengthy 4 month investigation, Detectives identified inconsistencies in the statements originally provided by the victim and her husband regarding how the incident occurred.

At the conclusion of this investigation, Detectives determined that the reported robbery had been staged by the female complainant and her husband. Detectives subsequently drafted arrest warrants for both individuals, which were later issued. Both turned themselves into the West Haven Police on May 21st, 2026.

****Water Rescue****

On May 7th, at approximately 9:00 pm, an officer was patrolling the April Street boat ramp parking lot when he was flagged down by a concerned citizen. The citizen advised this officer that two of his friends had gone out on the water around 1:00 pm. He tried to get in touch with his two friends but was unsuccessful. The individuals were also not answering their cell phones, which raised concern for their safety.

Additional officer responded to the area along with the West Haven Fire Department.

One of the West Haven Police Department drone pilots deployed the department drone and began searching the area from above. At the same time, members of the West Haven Fire Department entered the water in two rescue boats and began searching the area by water.

A short time later, a resident in the area contacted police after hearing yelling coming from the water and stated they saw a flare coming from the same area where the voices were heard.

The drone operator was able to locate two individuals in the water using thermal imaging technology approximately 2,600 feet offshore and in a coordinated effort, directed the West Haven Fire Department rescue boats to their location.

The two males were rescued and told first responders that their boat had capsized after being struck by the wake of another passing boat.

Both individuals were evaluated on scene by the West Haven Fire Department before being transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.

Great teamwork done by the West Haven Fire Department and the West Haven Police Department. The quick actions by both saved two lives that night.
