Thanks to our friends at Benhaven we are now partnered with WHEAT of West Haven. This is a pantry we’ve been wanting to get regular deliveries to, but getting to West Haven regularly with everything else going on has been a challenge. Now our friends in the Career and Transitions program are helping get our produce to more people…and tomorrow they’ll be helping us get a field ready for winter.

Everyone has a part to play. Anything is possible.

Nationwide, roughly 5 million Americans have lost access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits since the One Big Beautiful Bill became law, including more than 1.5 million children, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

And SNAP funding could face a major shake-up at the end of September unless Congress passes a resolution to delay major changes included in H.R. 1.

Nearly 40% of Connecticut households cannot comfortably afford life in the state, a new report says.

According to the United Way of Connecticut’s annual ALICE report, 570,000 households statewide were financially unstable as of 2024, the most recent year for which data is available.

That total is down slightly from last year’s report, which showed 581,000 families unable to afford essentials, but still up 14% from 2019.

WHEAT will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. We hope everyone in our community has a safe and restful holiday.

Pantry hours will resume Tuesday, September 8th from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm.
