On a special assignment, Truck 26 assisted Santa visiting the West Haven ERS Center to check on all the 911 operators keeping our city safe, and making sure everyone stays on the nice list……

A huge congratulations to Brendan Carew. Brendan was sworn in as a career probationary firefighter for West Haven Fire Department Center District. He will be attending the Ct Fire Academy over the next several weeks. Once completed, he will embark on his probationary year as a full time career firefighter.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Brendan has been a volunteer member of Hook & Ladder Co. 1 since 2020. He attained his firefighter 1 and EMT certifications, and began working as a utility firefighter in the Center District. Brendan has been an integral member of Hooks, and volunteered hundreds of hours to the City if West Haven and WHFD Center District. A native of the city, Brenden is sure to be an amazing addition to the career fire department, and will continue to serve our community in his new capacity.

Good luck brother! Hooks wishes you all the best in your career.

Another great West Haven 3rd of July fireworks display! Hooks, as always, joined by members from AVFA were on standby at Bradley Point along with Center District’s Fire Marshal’s Office for fire protection to assure the show was safe, and no unexpected bangs occured. Hooks also supplemented the WHFD Center district with EMS response from our EMT members on foot patrol.

Our all volunteer fire company was able to raise a considerable amount in donations from our community collecting on Captain Thomas Blvd. this year as we do every year to help the WH Fireworks Committee. We thank everyone for chipping in to put on a great event that West Haven can be proud of and look forward to every year!

Our special thanks to Assistant Chief Johnson for keeping us fed and hydrated for the day as members volunteered their time from 7am to 11pm that day.

It’s that time of year again. Members from Hook & Ladder Co. 1 will be out and about helping to collect donations for the upcoming West Haven Fireworks show in July. Help support the fireworks with any spare change you have.

We’ll be out on Captain Thomas Blvd today around 6:30pm.

Our Story

West Haven Hook and Ladder Co. 1 is an all volunteer fire company. It is part of the West Haven Fire Department in West Haven CT established in 1892.

“Hooks” has provided services to the Second Avenue neighborhood as well as responding within the center district of West Haven assisting our community for over 100 years. Hook and Ladder Co. 1 operates and responds in “the Pride of Second Ave” Truck 26. With an array of experience, training, and credentials in our ranks, “Hooks” members are able to provide supplemental exterior fire ground support as well as interior fire fighting for its members certified for Fire Fighter 1 and above. Truck 26 can also assist (as delegated by the Center District Fire Dept.) as first-responders for medical emergencies and motor vehicle accidents with members who have been certified as Emergency Medical Technicians(EMTs).

Hook and Ladder Co. 1 will also help at city events including the West Haven 4th of July fireworks, the Savin Rock Festival, and other city activities. Emergencies: call 911
