Four lucky winners will be selected on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, and will receive a $50 gift card or a ride to school in a West Hartford fire truck.

Late this afternoon, crews from Group 3 worked to free the occupant of a vehicle on its side in the 300 block of Park Rd.

Proficiency in vehicle stabilization and extrication are just two of many specialized skills our firefighters consistently hone to best serve the residents and visitors of West Hartford.

On Tuesday, the West Hartford Fire Department hosted Mayor Shari Cantor, Town Manager Rick Ledwith, Senator Richard Blumenthal, and a collective of fire service leaders from across Connecticut to speak out about the rising costs and long build times for fire apparatus across the country. This issue impacts our ability to provide continuous and consistent service to our communities, effectively plan and manage our budgets, and ensure we keep our personnel operating in and with the tools they need.

Today, the West Hartford Fire Department retired its 2009 Spartan aerial from front line status and put into service a 2025 Pierce Ascendant 100’ aerial as the new Truck 3. Working out of the Elmwood section of Town at Station 3 on New Britain Ave, we are excited to continue our service to the community and thankful for the support of our Town leaders.

A special thank you to the members who stepped up to help and guide this process from design through the challenging task of outfitting and training. It was a highly collaborative effort and many went above and beyond to ensure the apparatus and operators were best prepared for success.

Captain Shipley has been serving in an acting capacity since earlier this year and will continue his role as the Captain of Station 3.

Earlier this week, firefighters from the West Hartford Fire Department completed the final inspection on a new Pierce Ascendant 100’ aerial at their facility in Appleton Wisconsin. With the support of Mayor Cantor, our Town Council, Town Manager Ledwith and our Fire Chief, we worked diligently with the sales professionals at Firematic to design a fire apparatus to best meet the ever growing needs of our community. This new apparatus will replace a 2009 Spartan/Crimson aerial which has reached the end of its serviceability. We look forward to completing the outfitting and training needed to place this apparatus in service. Look for it to be serving the community of West Hartford in the very near future!
