💛❤️ Save the date: September 17, 2026!

The Junior League of Hartford is proud to join Junior Leagues around the world in celebrating International Find the Good Day—a global movement dedicated to finding the good within ourselves, throughout our communities, and in the world around us.

Observed on the third Thursday of September, Find the Good Day celebrates the Junior League’s longstanding commitment to kindness, women’s leadership, volunteer service, and meaningful community transformation. It also shines a light on the many ways Junior League members strengthen their communities through service, advocacy, fundraising, education, and leadership development.

Most importantly, this day is for everyone—not only Junior League members! We invite our friends, families, community partners, and Greater Hartford neighbors to participate by volunteering, supporting a local nonprofit, recognizing someone who is making a difference, helping a neighbor, or simply performing an act of kindness.

Every positive action, no matter how small, can inspire another and create a ripple effect throughout our community. Together, let’s celebrate the people who are already doing good and recommit ourselves to creating even more of it.

Volunteer-a-thon is coming up, and JLH shirts are here! 🎉

Show your JLH spirit with an official Volunteer-a-thon T-shirt for $20. Shirts are available in 3 colors, with adult sizes in all 3 and youth sizes in red. A portion of every shirt sold will also support JLH!

Choose FREE group shipping and pick up your shirt at the October 29 General Membership Meeting.
📍 An alternate pickup date/time will also be available (TBD)

September is National Deaf Awareness Month! The Junior League of Harford celebrates the achievements and resilience of the Deaf community and works to promote accessibility, understanding, and inclusion in every space.

🎥 Did you know? The Junior League of Hartford provided the initial funding and volunteer labor to establish "Captioned Films for the Deaf" in the 1940s and 50s. This groundbreaking program, spearheaded by Dr. E.B. Boatner and Clarence O'Connor at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, was the first successful initiative in the U.S. to caption motion pictures for deaf audiences.

The Junior League of Hartford raised capital, including an initial two grants totaling $7,500 to launch the project. Members also gave their time to transcribe captions from Hollywood scripts. This early advocacy and funding paved the way for the Captioned Film Act of 1958, which provided federal backing for accessible films.
