Ten House Rules
A house at peace is a beautiful thing. Harmony at home extends to the fireground, the highway, the tenement house and everywhere we roll.
10. Eat Together
Twice a day, every day. This sacred tradition must be maintained. When we break bread together big problems become little problems.
9. Accommodate Special Diets
It's not that hard to get some gluten free pasta, skip the cheese or put a steak on the grill for the carnivore.
8. Make the First Hour of the Shift Social Hour
Coffee and conversation is the glue that keeps us together. Pour a cup, take a seat and join the banter, the housework can wait.
7. Everybody Cleans
It's our house, nobody cleans up after us. A clean house is a happy house!
6. Raise and Lower the Flag
If not us, then who? Traditions die only when we let them die. That little ritual, when done consistently will be noticed, and very well could catch on. Again.
5. Make Your Bunk
Nothing beats a little shut eye during a long shift. The bunk is a restorative place, worthy of attention.
4. Welcome Retirees
It won't be long before you are the one ringing the bell to the door you once sauntered through.
3. Play Cards
There is a lot of fun to be had in a deck of cards. The group that plays together stays together.
2. Pay your Dues
Nobody likes a cheapskate.
1. Enjoy Every Second
This life we have been granted is the envy of every man, woman or child who asks themselves if they have what it takes.
"I'm not a hero, I've just never been tested. I'd like to think if I was I would pass." - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
We get to pass that test every time we put our gear on the truck, open the door to quarters and enter the arena, waiting for the bell to tip.
