Please join us in congratulating Captain Jimmy Doria in completing his Basic Fire School this weekend!
Basic Fire School is an 80-hour course covering fire behavior, fireground operations, safety, hose handling, ladders, search and rescue, and many of the fundamental skills needed to be a firefighter. By completing Basic Fire School, this has qualified him to go interior during a structure fire, which is a big deal for our department with limited numbers of qualified personnel for that.

4. What are some fun things you like to do when you aren’t working?
Hunt, fish, riding my motorcycle, hang out with my wife Becky and dog Bobby, and anything that has to do with the outdoors.

Tonight’s West Forks Fire and Rescue EMS Provider highlight for EMS Week is one of our out of state Fire and EMS members that visits us from Massachusetts and helps us with trainings and equipment, FF / Paramedic Jeremy O’Connell! Jeremy even brings his drone to our trainings to get some cool shots of our trainings too!

1. How long have you been on West Forks Fire and Rescue?

About 10 years, I am full time at the Northborough Mass Fire Department

2. What is your current license level and how long have you been an EMS provider?

Paramedic for 5 years and had been an EMT for 12 years before that.

3. If you were an EMS supply or tool, which one would you be?

Viper restraints, they’re extremely useful and safe way to keep you and the patient safe.

4. What are some fun things you like to do when you aren’t working?

Hunting, Fourwheeling, snowmobiling, and rafting.

5. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

Oops! We forgot to post yesterday’s West Forks Fire and Rescue’s EMS Provider highlight in the excitement of yesterday’s training. So today we’ll do 2 of them! We’ll post one this morning and another tonight!

The first one for today is FF/ EMT Dani Carter!!

1. I have been on West Forks Fire and Rescue for 7 years

2. I have been an EMT-B for 2 years, soon to be (hopefully!) an AEMT

3. I would be a comforting hand because sometimes in EMS that is the most powerful tool on the truck

4. In my free time I enjoy rafting, bodyboarding on the river, dancing to live music, disc golf, barefoot time in nature, and spending time with friends and family

5. I haven’t yet found an ice cream flavor I DON’T like so picking a favorite feels impossible 🤣

This afternoon, West Forks Fire and Rescue Department worked in conjunction with North Country Whitewater’s Guide Class to bring a realistic trauma scenario to life!
At 12:40pm, tones dropped for the Fire Department to respond to the Drill with information about the patient they were responding to.
Upon arrival to the scene, a report on the patient was given to responders and they got to work on assessing the patient and treating him for his injuries.
Rescue Director Heather Sylvester went over the satellite phone, transport options and the guides and department members worked on carrying the patient to the staging area for LifeFlight.
It was a great training for everyone involved!!

This afternoon, West Forks Fire and Rescue Department, in conjunction with North Country Whitewater, will be conducting a Trauma Scenario Training at the Carry Brook Stairs.
We thought we’d put this announcement out as we don’t want people to worry that there is an incident occurring on the river.
We’re excited to be working on this with North Country so their guides can get a feeling of what it is like to experience a trauma on the river and how we respond to it as a department and the team work needed for the best outcome for the patient.

The next featured EMS provider for West Forks Fire and Rescue Department is FF/ EMT Becky Stuart!!

1. How long have you been on West Forks Fire and Rescue?
I have been on West Forks Rescue for 6 years, but have been involved with the department since 2009. I am also a fulltime FF/EMT with Clinton Fire Department and have been on Clinton Fire for almost 4 years now.

2. What is your current license level and how long have you been an EMS provider?
I am currently a Nationally Registered and Maine Licensed EMT-Basic and have been an EMS provider for 3 years

3. If you were an EMS supply or tool, which one would you be?
If I had to be any EMS supply, I think I’d either want to be an IO drill or video larygoscope!

4. What are some fun things you like to do when you aren’t working?
Outside of work, you can find me hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors with my husband and our dog, Bobby, and teaching EMS and community education classes!

5. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
My favorite ice cream flavor is cookie dough

1. How long have you been on West Forks Fire and Rescue?

3 years

2. What is your current license level and how long have you been an EMS provider?

I've been an EMS basic for 3 years. Just finished my Advanced clinical rotation. Fingers crossed I pass the National test. 🤞🏼

3. If you were an EMS supply or tool, which one would you be?

Lifepak. Such an amazing ability to take vitals, run a 12-lead, and have an AED all together. Especially being in such a remote area.

4. What are some fun things you like to do when you aren’t working?
If I'm not working, you can either find me rafting some river, camping in new locations, hiking/walking my dog Kodak, or skiing (if we have the snow).

5. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Death by Chocolate (yes it's a real flavor)
