🚨 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

Effective July 1st, the Gratis Fire Department and West Elkton Gratis Township Fire District will merge to form a single district known as Shawnee Fire District.

This merger consolidates our efforts that have been unified in practice for some time now. By coming together under one district, we aim to eliminate duplicative expenses, administrative tasks, and streamline our standard operating procedures.

Rest assured, both fire stations will continue to serve our community, and all volunteer and officer positions remain intact.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington Ohio has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for all of the tristate area through Friday Evening.

WHAT...Prolonged period of dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around 100° are possible.
WHERE... Portions of East Central and Southeast Indiana and Central South Central Southwest and West Central Ohio.
WHEN... From Monday afternoon through Friday evening.
IMPACTS... Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
ACTIONS... Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids. Stay in an air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the Sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
