Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: From September 15 through October 15, West Covina Unified proudly joins communities across the nation in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

With Hispanic and Latino students representing 73% of our enrollment, this celebration holds special meaning for our WCUSD community.

Throughout the month, students will learn about the remarkable Hispanic and Latino scientists, artists, educators, leaders, and pioneers whose contributions have shaped our nation. We also honor the courage and service of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have proudly served in our Armed Forces and continue to lead in communities across the country.

But Hispanic Heritage Month is also about celebrating the families, traditions, languages, stories, and values that are part of our schools every single day.

To our Hispanic and Latino students and families: we celebrate your heritage, your contributions, and the bright futures our students are creating. Together, we are proud to be one WCUSD community.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. Every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and safe. This month is an important reminder that sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply check in.

Families, take a little extra time to ask your child how they’re really doing. Listen without judgment, remind them they are not alone, and let them know it is always okay to ask for help. A simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

Throughout September, our schools will provide prevention lessons for students in grades 7 and 10, and our school counselors and mental health clinicians are available to support any student who needs them.

Calling All Young Artists! WCUSD students in grades 3–5 are invited to participate in the West Covina Fire Department’s annual Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest!

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” encourages students to use their creativity to teach others about safe charging habits and preventing lithium-ion battery fires.

Contest runs September 4–18. Winning posters will advance to community judging at the Fire Prevention Open House on October 3!

Thank you to the West Covina Fire Department for continuing to provide our students with meaningful ways to learn, create, and help keep our community safe.

Elementary Music is back in session for the 2026–27 school year! Across West Covina Unified, our elementary campuses are once again filled with the sounds of students discovering rhythm, melody, instruments, and the joy of making music together.

In WCUSD, music isn’t an extra—it’s part of every elementary student’s school experience. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover a talent or passion they may not have known was there.

A special thank you to our talented elementary music teachers, Francisco Hernández, Greg Adamson, Jesus Alcantar, and Jessica Brizuela, for inspiring our young musicians and helping them build confidence and skills each week.

We can’t wait to hear what our students create this year!

Patriot Day | September 11 | Some moments in history stay with us forever.

As we remember September 11, 2001, we honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

For those who lived through that day, the memories can still feel vivid. Do you remember where you were when you first heard the news? Do you remember how you felt?

Twenty-five years later, may we continue to remember, reflect, and share these stories with the generations who came after us, so they understand not only what happened, but why we must never forget.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
