Stay vigilant!

Guidance continues to hone in on a potentially impactful winter storm by the middle of next week. There are still uncertainties in the forecast, but with cold air in place and a coastal low tracking off the Carolina coast, the setup favors wintry weather. Stay tuned to the latest forecast!

Civil Air Patrol's South Carolina Wing Air Crew Members flew missions Monday, September 30, 2024, to assist the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in collecting photographs & aerial views of numerous sites throughout the state of South Carolina.

On Monday, September 30th, 15 aircrew members flew 5 aircraft to photograph requested sites and provided over 1,450 images to FEMA. Photographs provided by Civil Air Patrol to FEMA will assist those who are making decisions about asset allocation. Additionally, the photographs can be used to brief those who are assessing current damage as well as forecasting future damage or timelines for recovery. Ten additional members supported this mission through communications work, planning roles, and by serving in public information roles.

Members involved in Monday's emergency service effort responded from across the state--literally--with one air crew responding from Myrtle Beach and another from Spartanburg. Members from Charleston to Aiken, Greenville to Summerville to Anderson were part of Monday's missions, and many others will join them in the days to come, as the South Carolina Wing of Civil Air Patrol will continue to support FEMA requests for aerial photography and other missions as requested. With more than 1100 volunteer airmen throughout the state, serving the community after disasters like Hurricane Helene is part of the overall purpose of Civil Air Patrol. These members are dedicated to serving America's communities, saving lives, and shaping futures.

Good evening, SCWG members:

*Thank you for communicating with your commanders & chain of command as we have performed wellness checks with all Group & Squadron commanders over the last 36 hours since Hurricane Helene moved through SC.

*Please continue to take care of your own welfare and that of your family--remembering that safety is paramount. We know many of you are affected by power & cell outages. If there are needs--please make them known so that if help can be provided, it can be arranged.

*The Command Team, ES, DO, SE, LOs, and Comms representatives are meeting daily and communicating frequently. Currently there is no direct tasking from SC EMD and our communication with Commanders will continue to be used to assess our ability to assist any other Wings/Region through the Area Command that has been established by Mid-Atlantic Region, Civil Air Patrol.

*We are ready to support when requested, thanks to volunteers like you.

*Things to note--
--Refresh & prep your own gear, uniforms, etc.
--Respond through the chain of command when asked about availability
--Refrain from self-deployment at all times
--Remember to check on your wingman
--Resist unnecessary travel right now, to preserve fuel & resources in short supply
