September 11th Observance Ceremony

The West Chicago Fire Protection District will hold a brief observance ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11. The ceremony will take place at Fire Station 6, located at 200 Fremont Street. Firefighters will assemble at approximately 8:45 a.m., with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. Members of the Fire District honor guard will participate in the event. Community members are invited to join the firefighters in this important observance to remember and honor those affected by the events of 9/11. We Will Never Forget

🏅 Recognizing Excellence in Service 🏅

The West Chicago Fire Protection District is proud to recognize several of our members for their outstanding actions during a structure fire in Warrenville on April 4, 2026.

Award of Merit – Life Safety
Lt. Dave Link, FF Jimmy Aguayo, and FF Patrick Fogarty were recognized for their actions that directly contributed to the life safety and rescue of a civilian during the fire.

Life-Saving Clinical Interventions
FF/Paramedic Patrick Fogarty, Paramedic Justin Williams, and Paramedic Eric Quasney were recognized for the critical clinical interventions they provided following the rescue, helping stabilize the patient during treatment and transport and contributing to the patient’s survival and recovery.

We are incredibly proud of these members and their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to protecting the lives of those we serve.

Community members are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 19, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Melissa Medeiros was a valued member of the West Chicago Fire Protection District, serving as a Trustee from 2022 to 2024 on the District's Board of Trustees.

The West Chicago Fire Protection District is proud to congratulate Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Maplethorpe on successfully completing his probationary period and being officially sworn in!

Completing probation is an important milestone in a firefighter’s career and represents many months of hard work, training, dedication, and commitment to serving our community.

We are proud to have him as part of the West Chicago Fire Protection District and look forward to watching him continue to grow in his career.

Residential Fire in the 1240 Block of Kings Cross

At approximately 4:25 a.m. on August 30, 2026, the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the 1240 block of Kings Cross for a reported fire involving a bathroom exhaust fan in a third-floor apartment.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had been largely extinguished by the tenant. Crews opened the ceiling and checked the surrounding area for extension, locating a small amount of remaining fire and embers involving the fan and adjacent ceiling area.
The fire was contained to the bathroom, exhaust fan, and the ceiling rafter to which the fan was attached. No other apartment units were affected.
An investigation was completed, and the fire was determined to be non-suspicious.
The tenant was able to continue occupying the apartment following the incident. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
The West Chicago Fire Protection District would like to thank the surrounding fire departments and other agencies for their assistance with the incident.

Residential Structure Fire on Hawthorne Lane

On August 20, 2026, at approximately 8:49 p.m., the West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to the 31W100 block of Hawthorne Lane for a reported residential structure fire.
The homeowner reported smoke and sparks coming from an electrical outlet and safely evacuated the residence before the fire companies arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the home and confirmed a fire in an upstairs bedroom.
All occupants were accounted for and safely outside. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the room of origin.
Utilities to the residence were secured, and the home was subsequently deemed uninhabitable by the DuPage County Building Department.
Following an investigation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but is not suspicious in nature
No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
The West Chicago Fire Protection District would like to thank the numerous surrounding fire departments and agencies that assisted our crews during the incident.
