The Good Will Fire Co. No. 2 regrets to announce the passing of former Lieutenant John Smiley. John passed after a long-fought battle with cancer on November 29, 2025. He joined the ranks of the West Chester Fire Department in 1978 as a firefighter with the Fame Fire Co. No. 3, before joining the Good Will Fire Company in 1984. Upon becoming a member of Good Will, John became very active as one of the company’s top responders, before being elected as a Lieutenant. He then remained active until the late 1990’s, when he relocated to Exton, where he then served with the West Whiteland Fire Company, also climbing to the rank of Lieutenant in their organization.

John spent majority of his life serving the public, as a firefighter in Chester County, but also as an EMT in Delaware County, at Riddle Memorial Hospital for 27 years. He served the community along side of his brother’s; Patrick with the Fame Fire Company and Past Chief David Smiley of the Good Will Fire Company. His nephews Rick, Patrick Jr, David Jr, and Alfred also followed in his footsteps, joining the ranks of the West Chester Fire Department over the years. He was well known in the first responder communities of Chester and Delaware Counties, and will be dearly missed by his family and colleagues.

Congratulations to Good Will Firefighter Tommy Flynn on his promotion to Paramedic Corporal at Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute!

Good Fellowship Ambulance is proud to announce the promotion of Thomas “Tommy” Flynn to Paramedic Corporal.

Tommy began his journey with Good Fellowship in 2017 at just 15 years old, and shortly after obtained his EMT certification. He went on to attend West Chester University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and later completed Good Fellowship’s Paramedic Program.

Throughout his time at Good Fellowship, Tommy has made valuable contributions to our mission, including training new providers, managing our social media presence, and playing a key role in the implementation and growth of our West Chester University Division.

In his new role, Tommy will serve as Paramedic Corporal on B Platoon, supporting daily operations and leading training initiatives.

Please join us in congratulating Tommy on this well-earned promotion.

The Good Will Fire Company is immensely grateful for Senator Carolyn Comitta’s support of our generator project.

“This is something we have needed for several years,” said Senior Firefighter Steve Crum. “With the help of Senator Carolyn Comitta we are receiving a $100,000 grant to help defray the cost of a new backup generator with installation.”
