HISTORY IN THE MAKING: 23RD ANNUAL LITTLE LINCOLNS GETTYSBURG ADDRESS CONTEST

WEST CHESTER, PA – December 6, 2022 -- The Chester County Community Foundation was proud to host the 23rd Annual Gettysburg Address Contest on Saturday, December 3rd at the historic Lincoln Building. Seven “Little Lincolns” (see photo) dressed up as President Abraham Lincoln and recited the Gettysburg Address to a crowd of family, friends, teachers, and community members. The event was organized by Joe Martino on behalf of the West Chester Historical & Architectural Review Board (HARB). He applauds the participants for their hard work.

Axel Kolasinski, Conrad Kowalski, and Olivia Teague, all from Fugett Middle School, placed first, second, and third, respectively. Dylan Olano-Gil from Saints Peter and Paul School won best costume. Grace Matulewicz from Saint Agnes School, Hailey Bauer from Fugett Middle School, and Anna Thompson from Pierce Middle School also participated in the contest. Each student was awarded a cash prize and a large Lincoln coin engraved with the Gettysburg Address, as this event celebrates the 158th anniversary of President Lincoln’s famous speech.

A special thank you to the 2022 sponsors Delphi Wealth Management Group (top hat sponsor) and Senator Carolyn Comitta. Senator Comitta also attended the event and presented the contestants with certificates. Thank you to the judges John Noakes, Kate Shaw, and Corinne Martino. Finally, a massive thank you to all the students, teachers, parents, and schools for supporting the Little Lincolns. This event encourages youth to become more involved in the community and gain a deeper appreciation for the ways local history has shaped the nation.
