Smoke Investigation – North Walnut Street

Sunday afternoon, the West Chester Fire Department was dispatched to the 50 block of North Walnut Street for a smoke investigation.

Assistant 51 arrived on location and found leaves smoldering inside a stormwater inlet. Crews arrived and flushed the inlet to extinguish the smoldering leaves.

🍂 A Fall Fire Safety Reminder! 🍂

As leaves continue to fall and collect along our streets and sidewalks, please be mindful when discarding ci******es. A cigarette that is not completely extinguished can ignite dry leaves and potentially cause a fire.

🚭 Please dispose of ci******es properly and never discard them into piles of leaves.

The West Chester Fire Department reminds everyone that a little extra caution can help prevent fires and keep our community safe!

STOP USING YOUR DEVICE RIGHT AWAY if the battery:

• Smells strange
• Feels warm or hot to the touch
• Makes popping or unusual noises
• Changes shape or color
• Produces smoke

If it is safe to do so, move the device away from anything that can catch fire.

A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire. Taking action at the first sign of a problem can help keep you, your family, and your home safe.

🔋 Charge safely. Stay alert. Stay safe.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | CHARGE SAFELY

The West Chester Borough Fire Department reminds everyone that where you charge your devices matters!

🔌 Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor.

🛏️ Avoid charging on beds, couches, or pillows. These soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat and increase the risk of fire.

Small changes in our everyday charging habits can make a BIG impact on fire safety.

⚡ Charge smart. Charge safe. Stay safe.

🇺🇸 25 YEARS. NEVER FORGOTTEN. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, 343 firefighters and 60 police officers made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks on our country. They ran toward danger while others were running away — answering the call to protect and save others.

Today, the members of the West Chester Fire Department pause to remember the lives lost, honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, and stand with the families and communities who continue to carry their memories.

We remember the brothers and sisters who never came home.
We remember the civilians whose lives were taken.
We remember the acts of courage, compassion, and selflessness that followed.

25 years later, we still remember.
We still honor.
We will never forget.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — Always Remembered. Always Honored. 🇺🇸
