West Burlington Fire, in conjunction with the Southeast Iowa Regional Fire Honor Guard, will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Friday, September 11th at 11am. This will be held in the grass lot to the south of the fire station at 301 Broadway.
The theme of this ceremony is “Remember the Skies”, which is meant to celebrate the cloudless day before the events of 9/11 happened. This is the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The community is invited to join area first responders for this ceremony. This will be a standing event but everyone is welcome to bring a chair, just remember we will be on the grass so folding chairs may not work.

Press Release
West Burlington Fire Department
Saturday, August 29th, 2026

On Saturday, August 29th, 2026 at approximately 6:40pm, West Burlington Fire was dispatched to the area of East Huston St and West Burlington Ave for a report of a tree down on a power line with fire showing.
Firefighters arrived 6 minutes after the time of call and found that a resident had attempted to cut down a tree and the tree had fallen on high voltage transmission lines which caused most of the city of West Burlington and parts of Middletown to lose power.
Alliant Energy responded and arrived on scene in less than 30 minutes. Crews from Alliant removed the tree from the lines and restored power. With the assistance of Honorary Firefighter Officer Brueck, the smoldering tree was extinguished.
This incident occurred at 417 E. Huston St. There were no injuries reported and power was restored within 45 minutes of the incident taking place.
West Burlington Fire was assisted by the West Burlington Police Department, Descom Communications and Alliant Energy.
