Des Moines County Communications - Descom

Des Moines County Communications - Descom DESCOM Is the primary point of contact for all emergencies and 911 calls in Des Moines County Iowa. Please do NOT use this page to report an emergency.

DESCOM was started July 1, 2014 to provide all emergency dispatch and 911 services to residence of Des Moines County. Prior to July 1, all dispatch duties were done by dispatchers that were civil service employees and worked for the Burlington Police Department. DESCOM is its own emergency service organization that works with and provides dispatch services to all law enforcement, medical and fire

agencies in Des Moines County. We are proud to work with the men and women of these agencies, and even more proud to be able to serve the great citizens of Des Moines County.

We have had many visitors and goodies delivered this week during Telecommunicators week but our most recent guests were by far the most meaningful! On Easter morning this gentleman was found unresponsive and not breathing by his wife. Dispatch supervisor Kirk Schneden answered the call and calmly and skillfully directed her through CPR until rescue could arrive. As you can see from the picture he is out of the hospital and doing well and they stopped down for hugs and to thank Kirk for his part in saving his life that day.

Des Moines county is truly blessed with some of the best 911 professionals and this is just another happy reminder!

Just a reminder! Today is the Statewide Tornado Drill. No need to be alarmed but its a good time to think through your response to a tornado warning as we enter severe weather season!

Tomorrow, if there is no active weather in the forecast, the National Weather Service will issue a TEST Tornado Warning at 10 AM. This will include the activation of the Des Moines County Outdoor Warning Sirens.
*
As a reminder, the Outdoor Warning System is primarily designed to alert individuals who are OUTDOORS and are not meant to be heard inside. This is why it is important to have multiple ways to receive warnings.
