WBFD Responds to Mutual Aid Structure Fire in West Liberty

On June 5, 2026, at approximately 2350 hours, West Branch Fire Department was requested to provide mutual aid for a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Knotty Circle in West Liberty.

WBFD responded with seven personnel. Upon arrival, crews were assigned to overhaul operations and assisted with extinguishing remaining hotspots throughout the structure. During these operations, firefighters located and extinguished fire in the basement and completed a primary search of the basement.

The fire was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies.

The West Branch Fire Department is proud to assist our neighboring communities and values the strong mutual aid partnerships that help keep our surrounding districts safe.

For Immediate Release

May 30, 2026 (JOHNSON COUNTY, IA) This morning at 4:29am the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center received calls reporting a residential fire at 3539 Johnson Cedar Road NE in West Branch. The West Branch Fire Department and surrounding area fire departments arrived on scene at 4:43am to a two-story, single-family residence that was fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, one victim was located and recovered from the fire scene. The victim was deceased.

No further information is available at this time and further details will be released pending family notification. The West Branch Fire Department was assisted by the Iowa State Fire Marshal, Johnson County Sheriffs Office, Tipton Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, West Liberty Fire Department, and Johnson County Ambulance Service.
