Plug in. Power up. Stay safe. October 4-10 is !
This year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is spreading the word on with the "Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging is a Superpower" campaign, sharing how everyday actions can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. 🔋
Township fire personnel work hard to keep residents & communities informed & safe through fire safety education, especially for children & students. Thank you for all you do to keep our townships safe!
Townships can share with residents some simple ways to help keep their devices, & their community, safe: ⤵️
• Use the cord & charger that came with your device, or ones approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery & increase risk of fire.
• Be sure to charge your devices on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk or floor. Beds, couches & pillows can trap heat & block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.
• If your device battery starts to smell strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke, stop using it right away.
• Unplug your device once it's fully charged. Leaving it plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on a battery.
• Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batters store more energy & fires can grow quickly if they fail.
