Solicitor Safety Post

Dear Residents,

We have received reports of door-to-door solicitors in the area. Please remember that legitimate solicitors are required to carry proper identification and possess a permit issued through the township.

If someone comes to your door:

Ask to see their solicitor permit and identification.

Do not provide personal, financial, or account information.

Do not feel pressured to make an immediate decision.

You may choose not to answer the door.

If you have a “No Soliciting” sign posted, solicitors should respect it.

If the person refuses to leave, becomes aggressive, or makes you feel unsafe, contact police immediately.

Please note that only approved solicitors are provided with the “No Knock” list. Solicitors who have not followed the proper approval process will not have access to that information.

Your safety is our priority. If something seems suspicious or a solicitor is not following the rules, trust your instincts and contact police. Most jurisdictions have similar solicitor requirements, and reporting violations helps us address the issue.

Please call police immediately if you learn that a solicitor does not have a permit.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.

The Berlin Township Police Department would like to remind everyone of our participation in the BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM, a proactive initiative aimed at supporting drivers with Autism and communication disorders. This program is designed to enhance safety and ensure positive interactions between law enforcement officers and individuals during traffic stops.

Drivers will receive a special blue envelope to securely keep important documents, such as their driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance details, and emergency contact information. Additionally, the envelope provides officers with valuable communication tips, helping to reduce the potential for misunderstandings or escalation.

We also partner with the Camden County Prosecutors Office to bring the Special Needs Registry. This registry was created to help police officers and other emergency personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing this first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergent contact information, physical description, and a current photograph of the registrant.

We invite community members to pick up envelopes and learn more about the program at the Berlin Township Police Department, located at 135 NJ-73, West Berlin, NJ 08091 from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. If you have any questions or need further information about the program, please reach out to Lieutenant Childs at [email protected]. You can also email us with questions about the special need registry at [email protected]. Your participation in this initiative promotes understanding and safety within our community.

Scan the QR code on the flyer for links with example pictures and further information about the Blue envelope program. There is also a link to the Camden County Prosecutors Office page for the special needs registry.

🚗 April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Throughout April, Berlin Township Police Officers will be actively enforcing traffic laws targeting behaviors that commonly lead to motor vehicle crashes.

Distracted driving takes your eyes off the road and puts lives at risk — whether it’s texting, scrolling, eating, or adjusting the radio. Just one second of distraction can change everything.

Berlin Township Police remains committed to keeping our community safe. This April, we ask everyone to make a simple commitment:
• Put your phone away
• Keep your eyes forward
• Stay focused on driving

Eyes Forward, New Jersey — it’s how we protect one another and ensure everyone gets home safely each day
