Hamilton Audubon Sanctuary Encompassing 86 acres, the property is situated in West Bath on a peninsula extending between the New Meadows River and Back Cove. Please, no dogs.

Encompassing 93 acres, the property is situated in West Bath on a peninsula extending between the New Meadows River and Back Cove. The sanctuary is traversed by a 2.75 mile trail network that winds through an open meadow and moist coastal forest of spruce and pine. Striking views over a salt marsh and tidal mudflats at Back Cove provide opportunities to see Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and migrant shorebirds and waterfowl. Hamilton Sanctuary is open free of charge to the public from dawn to dusk the year round. Enjoy the sanctuary for nature study, walking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or just for its quiet beauty. Pets are not permitted in Maine Audubon wildlife sanctuaries.

You may have noticed some construction along the Green Trail lately, and now you can see the finished product!

The brand-new 140-foot-long boardwalk is now ready for use. The boardwalk helps protect the forested wetland along the trail while making it easier and safer for visitors to walk across it.

A huge thanks to our Land Steward, Liz, and Maine Audubon Seasonal Stewardship and Grounds Assistant, Cole, for an amazing job — it was no small feat getting all that wood across the cove to begin the work!

There's still lots to see at our sanctuary, even in the winter (we'll keep an eye out for the eagle 🦅)! Our trails are open from dawn to dusk year-round. Just remember to keep pets at home. See you around soon 🎿!
