🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Tomorrow morning, the Baldwin Fire Department will pull our apparatus outside our stations and illuminate their emergency lights from 8:46 AM until 9:03 AM.

Seventeen minutes.

A small amount of time that forever changed our country—and the fire service.

At 8:46 AM, American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower. At 9:03 AM, United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower. In the hours that followed, firefighters, police officers, EMS providers, and ordinary citizens demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Among them were 343 members of the FDNY who went to work that morning and never returned home.

They climbed while others descended.
They entered while others escaped.
They answered the call because someone needed them.

For those 17 minutes, our trucks will sit quietly with their lights shining—not for an emergency, but as a symbol of remembrance.

We remember the 343. We remember every first responder and innocent life lost that day. We remember the families who said goodbye that morning without knowing it would be the last time.

And we remember the promise made in the days that followed:

We will never forget.

May our lights shine for those whose watch ended on September 11, 2001, and may we continue to honor them every time we answer the call.

Yesterday, members of the Baldwin Fire Department, Sebago Fire Dept, and Limington Fire Department came together for hands-on training focused on SCBA Confidence and MAYDAY Operations utilizing the Maine Fire Service Institute (MFSI) SCBA Smoke Trailer.

The MFSI trailer provides firefighters with the opportunity to work through challenging, realistic scenarios in a controlled, non-life-hazardous environment. Crews practiced navigating restricted spaces, managing SCBA emergencies, maintaining situational awareness, and initiating MAYDAY procedures when conditions deteriorate.

Training like this builds confidence, muscle memory, and proficiency before those skills are needed during an actual emergency.

Train together. Build confidence. Be prepared when it matters most.

A big thank you to Chief Rice of Falmouth, Sebago Fire Dept and Limington Fire Department for joining us, and to MFSI for providing an outstanding training resource for Maine’s firefighters!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE MT. ETNA GRANGE HALL!

The Baldwin Fire Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Mt. Etna Grange Hall for their incredibly generous $30,000 donation toward the purchase of our new UTV.

This donation allowed Baldwin Fire to add a critical piece of equipment to our fleet, significantly improving our ability to respond to emergencies in areas that traditional fire apparatus simply cannot reach.

Our new UTV is equipped with a QTAC Fire/EMS skid unit, giving our firefighters the capability to respond to:

🔥 Woods & brush fires
🚒 Off-road fire suppression operations
🛟 Wilderness and trail rescues
🌲 Incidents throughout Baldwin’s extensive trail and wooded areas

For a small rural fire department, a contribution of this magnitude makes an enormous difference. This UTV isn’t just a new piece of equipment—it’s a resource that will help us reach people faster, bring firefighters and equipment deeper into the woods, and operate more effectively when minutes matter.

The support the Mt. Etna Grange Hall has shown the Baldwin Fire Department and the community we serve is something we are extremely grateful for.

Today, the Baldwin Fire Department is working alongside Lakes Region Fire Apparatus to complete the annual performance testing of our fire apparatus pumps.

Annual pump testing is a critical part of ensuring our apparatus can deliver the required water flow and pressure when responding to emergencies. During testing, each pump is evaluated under a variety of operating conditions to verify it meets the performance standards established by NFPA 1910. This includes checking pump capacity, pressure, relief valve operation, primer performance, and ensuring the entire pumping system is operating safely and reliably.

Routine testing like this helps identify potential issues before they become problems on the fireground, ensuring our firefighters have dependable equipment when lives and property are on the line.

A big thank you to Natures Wilderness RV Lodge for allowing us to use their Pond and Lakes Region Fire Apparatus Inc for their professionalism and expertise in helping us maintain our fleet to the highest standards.
