Joining my colleagues in the city from my “home office” City of West Allis, WI Government for April 29th, Denim Day Milwaukee, a day to help end victim blaming and promote awareness about sexual violence. Every year, our Public Works Department hangs denim jeans outside City Hall, and employees are encouraged to wear jeans to bring attention to this issue, as there are far too many people in our communities exploited at the hands of others, and all those affected by sexual violence and abuse deserve hope, healing, advocacy, and support.
The West Allis Police Department provides a support, empowerment, and educational group for women who are in or have been in an abusive relationship through the Women Initiate Self-Healing and Hope (WISH) program.
If you would like to support the WISH Program through the West Allis Police Department, donations can be made in cash or check. Checks can be made payable to the City of West Allis (note “For WISH” in the memo). Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 11301 W. Lincoln Ave. Donations will be used to purchase gas cards to help women attend the meetings.
