STREET REPAIR NOTICE: Beginning Monday, June 22 at midnight, the Streets Department will start repairs at 56th and National to remove and restore an uneven section of roadway. Work will first take place in the east/west driving lanes, and traffic will be temporarily shifted to the parking lanes. Starting Tuesday, June 23 at midnight, crews will move to the parking lanes, shifting traffic back to the east/west driving lanes. Weather permitting, all work is expected to be completed by 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Ready to build something from the ground up and lead it into the future? The City of Wauwatosa and the City of West Allis are hiring the first-ever Fire Chief for Milwaukee Metro Fire Rescue (MMFR) — a new, unified department launching in January 2027.

In this role, you'll:

• Lead the integration of the Wauwatosa and West Allis Fire Departments into one organization, aligning operations, policies, and culture across both communities
• Provide overall vision, leadership, and administrative oversight of fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency medical services
• Serve as Emergency Management Coordinator for both cities, directing response to large-scale, multi-jurisdictional emergencies
• Oversee department budgets, fiscal operations, and long-range strategic planning
• Represent the department to elected officials, community groups, business leaders, and the media across the region

The pay range for this position is $153,753 – $196,477, with the starting salary depending on experience and qualifications. The role includes an excellent benefits package with paid parental leave, a free workplace clinic, an on-site fitness center, a Wisconsin Retirement System pension, generous paid holidays and vacation, and relocation assistance.

Nominations for Commendable Property and Best Porch are due by Wednesday, June 17, and nominations for Patriotic Display are due three days before Independence Day.
