Day two of the Dayton Air Show!

West Alexandria Fire & EMS is excited to once again have crews volunteering their time to assist Dayton Fire with EMS coverage for this great event.

Yesterday’s crew had beautiful weather, minimal calls, and even got to enjoy some downtime watching the show. We are proud to be part of this mutual aid effort and to provide our crew and UTV to assist with transport and support services as needed.

Today and Tomorrow West Alexandria Fire & EMS has crews volunteering their time and proudly assisting Dayton Fire with a mutual aid request to provide EMS coverage at the Dayton Air Show.

We are proud to be able to provide a crew for this event, along with our UTV, to assist with transport and support services as needed.

Thank you to our members for giving their time to help support a large regional event and to continue representing our department and community with pride.

🚲⚡ E-Bike & Electric Scooter Safety ⚡🛴

Electric bikes and scooters are becoming more and more popular in our community. They can be fun and convenient, but they are not toys.

Many of these bikes and scooters can travel much faster than a regular bicycle. At those speeds, one bad turn, pothole, vehicle, or sudden stop can lead to serious injuries.

One of our biggest concerns is seeing riders — especially kids and teens — riding without helmets. A fall at e-bike or scooter speeds can result in serious head trauma, brain injury, or worse.

Please help us keep everyone safe:

✅ Wear a properly fitted helmet every ride
✅ Slow down around traffic, intersections, sidewalks, and driveways
✅ Ride with both hands on the handlebars
✅ Do not ride distracted or with headphones in
✅ Watch for cars backing out of driveways
✅ Use lights or reflective clothing when riding near dark
✅ Do not carry extra riders unless the bike or scooter is designed for it
✅ Parents, please know how fast your child’s bike or scooter can go

We want everyone to enjoy riding, but we also want everyone to make it home safely.

Slow down. Wear the helmet. Ride smart.

May was a busy month for West Alexandria Fire & EMS!

During the month of May, our crews responded to 70 incidents, including EMS calls, service assists, fire-related calls, CO/gas alarm incidents, and other community needs.

On top of our normal call volume, our members also provided 36 hours of volunteer staffing coverage for the West Alexandria Jamboree, helped host a successful spaghetti dinner, and held a monthly bingo session to support our department and community projects.

To say our volunteers have been busy would be an understatement.

We are extremely grateful for every member who gives their time, whether it is answering calls, staffing community events, cooking, serving, cleaning up, fundraising, or simply showing up when help is needed.

Thank you to our members, families, and community for the continued support. We could not do it without you!

Your West Alexandria Fire & EMS crews have been busy! 🚒🚑

In the last 24 hours, our crews have responded to 10 calls for service — but don’t worry, we are still ready for the Spaghetti Dinner tonight! 🍝

So here is your plan for the evening:

Stop out, come downtown, hang out at the Jamboree, ride some rides, play some games, then walk over to the firehouse and get yourself an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner.

After that, walk back over to the Jamboree for dessert, more games, and a great evening in the community!

Community Safety at the Jamboree

Yesterday, members of West Alexandria Fire & EMS, the Village of West Alexandria, and the West Alexandria Police Department worked together to place vehicle barriers around key areas of the Jamboree grounds.

These barriers are being used as an added layer of protection for everyone attending and enjoying the Jamboree this weekend. While we hope they are never needed, planning ahead and putting safety measures in place is an important part of protecting our community during large events.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Preble County EMA, who reached out to Miami County EMA and helped make it possible for us to borrow these barriers for the weekend. That partnership allowed us to add an extra level of safety for our residents, visitors, vendors, volunteers, and first responders.

A lot of work happens behind the scenes before events like this, and we appreciate everyone who helped make this possible.

Come out, have fun, support the Jamboree, and enjoy the weekend safely!

Memorial Day

Today, West Alexandria Fire & EMS pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day to reflect, remember, and give thanks for those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy.

As families gather for cookouts, travel, and time together, please take a moment to honor the meaning of this day.

Holiday safety tip:
As you enjoy the weekend, please keep grills, fire pits, and outdoor cooking away from homes, garages, decks, and overhanging branches. Never leave them unattended, and make sure ashes or coals are completely cool before disposal.
