Proud to recognize September 14–20, 2026, as Nephrology Nurses Week in Hidalgo County and to honor the incredible nephrology nurses who provide compassionate, life-sustaining care to patients and families across our community.These dedicated professionals play a vital role in the care of patients living with kidney disease, from dialysis treatment to education, advocacy, and ongoing support. Their work changes lives every single day.We also want to highlight the importance of comprehensive kidney care in the Rio Grande Valley.

DHR Health provides comprehensive kidney care through the DHR Health Transplant Institute, the only certified kidney transplant center in the Rio Grande Valley. Services include kidney transplant surgery, complete evaluations, living donor nephrectomies, post-operative care, support for living donors, multidisciplinary treatment for complex renal disorders, and urological care for related urinary and bladder conditions.

Commissioner David Fuentes also shared his personal experience as a kidney donor. It has been 20 years since he donated a kidney to his mother, and he said he remains grateful that his donation gave him more time to be with her. His story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation.Today, 10,000 people in Texas are waiting for organ transplants, and about 100,000 people are waiting nationwide. Experts say one donor can save up to eight lives.

As we recognize Nephrology Nurses Week, let’s also raise awareness about kidney health, organ donation, and the dedicated healthcare teams and families who make hope possible.

Last night our team had a blast at Al Fresco Weslaco "Back to School" in Downtown Weslaco! 🎒🎶 Commissioner David Fuentes and our Precinct 1 staff were out from 6–9:30 PM handing out promotional items, greeting families, and enjoying the music with the community. Huge thanks to the City of Weslaco and EDC Weslaco for putting on such a great night. See y'all at the next one!

🚜🏗️ Commissioner David Fuentes was proud to be in Mercedes this morning for the groundbreaking of the South Mercedes Lateral Improvements – Phase 3!

Grateful to partner with the Texas General Land Office, the Hidalgo County Urban County Program, and the City of Mercedes to deliver this 2018 Drainage Bond project — flood relief is on the way for our neighborhoods. 💧

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 attended the Alamo Drainage Improvement Project.

This project represents a major investment in the community of Alamo, helping improve drainage along one their main corridors and reducing flooding for residents, businesses, and everyone who travels through the area.

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 was proud to join the Mercedes Fire Department for its traditional Push-In Ceremony, welcoming a new fire engine into service.
