The Western Berks Fire Department is a multi-jurisdictional fire department serving the communities of Sinking Spring and Wernersville Boroughs and Lower Heidelberg and South Heidelberg Townships of Fritztown and the Lower Heidelberg Township Volunteer Fire Co. provided mutual aid to each, collaborated together for training and performed a number of community outreach events to the residents of th

e municipalities. In 2007, the department leadership of each company and the elected officials of the four municipalities began discussing the options available for furthering the already existent cooperation between the four departments and municipalities. In December of 2007, a committee of elected officials, fire department officers and members, community residents, and business leaders convened to discuss the various options available with a representative from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. After a number of monthly committee meetings, extensive research and data collection, and discussions with other departments who recently performed a consolidation, in October of 2008 the committee presented the elected officials, department members, and community residents with an extensive report documenting the recommendations to form the new consolidated department. The Western Berks Fire Department was organized and placed “in-service” on August 8, 2009 when the four legacy departments from four separate municipalities were consolidated into one comprehensive department. The new department is now responsible for protecting over 20,000 residents and hundreds of business in an area covering over 32 square miles which consists of residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, educational facilities, agricultural facilities, major rail and highway transportation corridors and a number of hazardous materials facilities.

Yesterday marked our final Lunch with students at Conrad Weiser East Elementary for the 2025/2026 school year! Students earned the opportunity to have us join them by redeeming their Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) tickets that they earned.

We were also joined by our public safety partners from the South Heidelberg Township Police Department, helping make the day even more special for the students.

On our last visit of the year, we enjoyed snacks, played games, and even had a very competitive basketball game. As for who won… we’ll keep that our little secret! 🏀😉

Thank you to the students and staff at Conrad Weiser East Elementary for welcoming us throughout the school year. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and relaxing summer!

The Western Berks Fire Department is pleased to announce that our “Headquarters Fire Station Modernization Project,” submitted through the FY2027 Congressionally Directed Spending Request Program, has been selected by Senator Dave McCormick to move forward in the funding process.

The next step will be review by the Senate Appropriations Committee. While this does not guarantee that funding will ultimately be secured, it is an important and encouraging step forward for our project and our department.

This modernization project is focused on improving our headquarters station to better support our firefighters, emergency operations, training capabilities, and service to the communities we protect each day.

Since 2015, through aggressive pursuit of grant opportunities and strong community partnerships, the Western Berks Fire Department has successfully secured more than $1 million in funding for critical equipment, operational needs, training resources, and other important projects that directly benefit our firefighters and the communities we serve.

We appreciate the continued support from our municipalities, community partners, residents, and Senator McCormick’s office as we continue advocating for the future needs of the Western Berks Fire Department.

Last week, members of the Western Berks Fire Department participated in multi-company live training burns focused on residential dwelling fires. These valuable evolutions provided firefighters with hands-on experience in fire attack, search operations, ventilation, and coordinated incident operations in realistic conditions.

We were proud to train alongside our auto aid partners from Township of Spring Fire Rescue Services, Wyomissing Fire Department, and Cumru Twp Fire Station 42. Strengthening teamwork, communication, and operational readiness that directly benefits the communities we serve.

We were happy to welcome students from the Pathways to Adult Living class, at the Berks County Intermediate Unit to the Western Berks Fire Department! 🚒

During their visit, students had the opportunity to tour the station, learn about fire safety, and get an up-close look at the equipment our firefighters use every day to serve and protect the community. Our team enjoyed answering questions and sharing what it’s like to be part of the fire service.

Thank you to the students and staff for spending the day with us—we loved having you and hope to see you again soon!

We had a great time this past week conducting fire safety presentations for the Independent Living residents at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville Borough. The program was held over two sessions, allowing us to connect with even more residents.

It’s always a pleasure to engage with members of our community, share important safety tips, and answer questions to help keep everyone safe in their homes. Thank you to the residents and staff for the warm welcome and participation throughout both sessions!

Remember—fire safety starts with awareness. Stay safe!

We had a great time participating in Community Heroes Day!

A sincere thank you to the students, staff, and all the volunteers who made the event such a success. Your energy, support, and enthusiasm made it a truly meaningful day for our department and the community we serve.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect, share what we do, and be part of such a positive event. Looking forward to the next one!

🚁 Big engines, wagging tails, and high-flying surprises! 🌟

We had an incredible Community Heroes Day at Conrad Weiser East just before Spring Break! Our soccer fields turned into a landing pad when the Air Force touched down in a helicopter, giving students and staff the chance of a lifetime to sit in the cockpit. The excitement didn't stop there—the day was full of experiences from local heroes from the police department and their K9s, Western Berks Ambulance, Tower Health, and our local fire company. 🚔 🚑
Students also got a birds-eye view from giant construction equipment and learned about nature from a local taxidermist! 🚜🚧
We are so grateful to all the businesses and organizations that volunteered their time to inspire our kids and teach them about the vital roles they play in our community. It was truly a day to remember! 💙🤍
