Today, Sept. 12 on National Police Women Day, we proudly recognize the women of the Wentzville Police Department and police women across the country.

This day honors the bravery, service and leadership of women law enforcement officers who serve their communities. Women make up approximately 10 percent of police officers in the United States and their contributions to the profession are invaluable.

We thank you for your professionalism, dedication and commitment to the Wentzville community.

Today, on Sept. 11 our School Resource Officers joined students and staff at Heritage and Wabash Elementary for their annual Patriot Day programs commemorating 9/11.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11 we are especially grateful to these schools for taking the time to educate our students about that day's events and to honor the lives and sacrifices of those who were lost.

K9 Winnie, along with her friends Officer Richards, Officer Waggoner, Detective Gruswitz, Corporal Wilson and Lieutenant Thurman helped organize programs that included moments of silence, first responder presentations and opportunities for students to learn more about the people and equipment that serve our community.

Students also had the opportunity to meet members of our K9 team, Motor and Drone Units, 911 Dispatch, Detective Bureau, St. Charles County Ambulance District and Wentzville Fire Protection District.

We appreciate the teachers, staff and first responders who helped make these programs meaningful and educational for our students. We are grateful to Heritage and Wabash Elementary for ensuring the next generation understands why we remember Sept. 11 and why we will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews with the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project will close the eastbound Interstate 70 exit ramp to Wentzville Parkway (exit 208) overnight Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12. Crews will be installing a drainage structure at the ramp. All work is weather permitting.
The ramp will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Eastbound motorists wishing to access Wentzville Parkway can exit at David Hoekel Parkway (exit 206) and continue east on W. Pearce Boulevard/North Service Road. This is the second closure needed to complete the drainage work at this ramp. The first ramp closure occurred August 28-29.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention in work zones, drive the posted work zone speed limit, and allow extra time for travel. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

We are grateful for the Christian Motorcycle Association's continued support and their annual visit to the Wentzville Police Department.

Members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association stopped by today to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, including the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve.

They also took time to pray for the families who continue to carry the loss of loved ones, as well as for the safety and protection of first responders serving our communities today.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who responded that day, and we remain committed to honoring their memory and never forgetting.

Thank you to the Christian Motorcyclists Association for continuing this meaningful tradition, for your prayers and support of first responders in Wentzville and across the country.

On this 25 year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, we will never forget.

We pause to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and the families who continue to carry their memory. We especially remember the brave first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

Police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and citizens risked everything to help those in need, with many making the ultimate sacrifice. 25 years later, their courage, sacrifice and commitment to others remain a lasting part of our nation's history.

We will never forget those who were lost, those who answered the call and the families who continue to honor their memory.

Today, Sept. 9 we were honored to receive a generous and unexpected $3,000 donation for the Wentzville Police Department Blue Line Family, Inc. from three local businesses that wanted to show their appreciation for three of our officers.

Jordan from Wentzville One Stop Conoco, Express Mart and Oday from ABU Towing and Recovery made the donation on behalf of Officer Burkemper, Officer Walker and Sgt. Smith, who have made a lasting impression through their service and support while on patrol.

Jordan shared that he is especially impressed by these three officers, who are always willing to stop by, provide extra patrol and help keep his business and employees safe. He also expressed his appreciation for every member of the Wentzville Police Department who has answered the call when they needed help.

This donation will support the WPD Blue Line Family, help fund their community outreach efforts and provide assistance to WPD officers and their families during times of need.

We are incredibly grateful to Jordan, Oday and the entire team at Wentzville One Stop Conoco and ABU Towing and Recovery for their continued support of the Wentzville Police Department and the officers who serve our community.

Thank you for supporting our officers and for being such great community partners.

Alternative Vehicle Safety: We Need Your Help

In response to residents' concerns about the use of alternative vehicles in our community, the Wentzville Police Department is taking additional steps to address these concerns and asking for your help.

If you see something, say something. Many violations involving alternative vehicles such as operating them in the roadway go unreported while they occur. If you observe unsafe or potentially unlawful use of an alternative vehicle, please call the Wentzville Police Department's nonemergency line at (636) 327-5105 when the violation occurs. Timely reporting gives our officers the best opportunity to respond.

We have also initiated focused patrols during peak hours in areas where concerns have been reported. These patrols are intended to address safety concerns through proactive enforcement, education and parental notification when appropriate.

We appreciate our community's partnership as we work together to keep our streets, neighborhoods and public spaces safe.
