Yesterday at approximately 5:45 p.m., Wentzville Firefighters responded to a rescue call at Urshan University involving a deer trapped in a pond.

Upon arrival, crews found the exhausted deer swimming in circles and unable to make its way back to shore. Firefighter Spires entered the water while Firefighter Moushey and Firefighter Volz worked from the shoreline to carefully guide the deer toward him. Once within reach, Firefighter Spires was able to safely secure the deer with a rope, and the crew worked together to bring it back onto dry land.

After a few moments to rest and recover from its long swim, the deer regained its strength and was able to make its way back home.

Great teamwork and a happy ending for one of our four-legged community members! 🦌

Fortunately, MAYDAY situations are rare, but that's exactly why we train for them.

Over the last couple of weeks, our crews completed RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) and MAYDAY training, practicing the critical skills needed to rescue a firefighter in distress. This training helps ensure our members are prepared to respond quickly, effectively, and safely when one of our own needs help.

A residential fire this week quickly escalated into a three-home fire, challenging firefighters from the Wentzville Fire Protection District and our neighboring fire departments.

When crews arrived, one home was heavily involved in fire, with flames threatening and ultimately impacting two neighboring homes. Firefighters immediately went to work protecting nearby structures, establishing water supplies, conducting searches, and bringing the fire under control.

Thankfully, all residents made it out safely. During the incident, firefighters rescued two dogs and a cat from the affected homes and reunited them with their owners.

This incident also highlighted the dedication of public safety professionals both on and off duty. Before responding crews arrived, off-duty members from Wentzville Fire, Monarch Fire, and St. Charles County Ambulance District who were in the neighborhood immediately stepped in to assist those affected by the fire. Their actions serve as a reminder that the commitment to serving others doesn't end when the shift does.

One firefighter was injured while on scene and was transported to the hospital for evaluation but has since been released and is recovering.

We are grateful for the teamwork displayed by all responding agencies and for the support shown by the community. Our thoughts remain with the families affected by this fire as they begin the recovery process.

Water safety, especially for our kids, starts even before we step in the water.

Did you know the color of your child's swimsuit could affect water safety?

The color of their swimsuit can impact their visibility in water, and it even depends on the water. Take a minute before you start your summer and do a little research on what swimsuits are safest depending on where you’re headed this summer.

Stay safe on the water this summer!

As summer approaches, we all look forward to the start of boating season.

This week, during National Safe Boating Week, is a great time to make sure you are prepared for some fun in the sun. Check your life jackets, plan ahead, and practice safe boating habits – especially as many of you enjoy local lakes and rivers in the coming months.

While the Wentzville Fire team regularly trains for water rescues so you don’t have to face danger alone, prevention is key. Here are a couple tips from our crew:

πŸ“Œ Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, even if you're a strong swimmer.

πŸ“Œ Make sure you know and follow Missouri boating laws. Anyone born after 1983, must pass a Boater Education course before operating a motorized vessel on state lakes, and the legal age to operate a boat is 14.

Stay safe on the water this summer!

Yesterday morning, we were honored to welcome the 2026 Run For The Wall riders as they made a stop in Wentzville on their journey across the country.

Residents, city representatives, and other supporters gathered early to show their support and help send the riders off on the next leg of their journey.

Mayor Guccione spoke briefly to welcome the group and recognize the importance of their mission β€” honoring our veterans, raising awareness for POW/MIA service members, and supporting those who have served.

While weather prevented the planned flag raise the evening before as the riders entered Wentzville, we were still proud to be part of this meaningful event and grateful for everyone who helped make the stop special.

Safe travels to all the riders as they continue their journey!

Our crews recently conducted hands-on vehicle extrication training focused on sharpening the critical skills needed during real-world crash and rescue scenarios.

The training included:

- Vehicle stabilization and industry-accepted extrication methods for quick patient access and disentanglement.
- Safe and effective use of specialized, battery-operated E-Draulic rescue tools.
- Simulated scenarios designed to reinforce teamwork, communication, and efficiency under pressure.

A big thank you to Budget Towing for their continued support in providing the vehicles and site for this training. Partnerships like this are essential in helping us maintain a high level of readiness and deliver the best possible service to our community.
